Jail and Court House Lifted to Bay Minette

In October Baldwin County moved the Daphne jail and courthouse to Bay Minette after a staged seizure. Men loaded doors, windows, cages, and prisoners onto wagons as Daphne's officials watched, while Sheriff Bryson sought an injunction.

Illness Prevents Denson From Speaking in Anniston

Hon. Wm. H. Denson, slated to oppose ratification of the new constitution, fell ill in Birmingham and could not travel to Anniston. J. B. Graham of Talladega filled his slot delivering a strong pro ratification address to about 500 listeners at the Auditorium.

Train collision wrecks depot at Pine Hill

A Mobile and Birmingham branch train on the Southern Railroad split at Pine Hill thirty miles south of Selma at 6 50 this morning. Four cars derailed and crashed into the depot tearing it down. The twenty eight car train was involved.

Anniston Golfers Welcome Birmingham Team For Match

This morning a Birmingham Golf Club team from the Magic City arrived to face Highland Golf Club players in Anniston. After two rounds on Tyler Hill, the Anniston group led by eight holes. Birmingham golfers are being royally entertained, with further rounds in the afternoon.

Four Texans In Street Duel End In Fatalities

A brutal street fight erupted in Waco on October 21 after 1 PM on Austin Avenue. Ex sheriff W T Harris and his son clashed with Dr T G Lovelace and his stepson Z T Reynolds. The confrontation left two dead and four wounded as authorities investigated motive and details.

Shootout at Turf Saloon Ends in Double Fatalities

Longstanding bad blood over family affairs erupts near the Turf saloon as Harris fires a shotgun at Lovelace. Lovelace answers with a pistol, killing Harris, then shoots and kills the other Harris. Both Lovelace and Reynolds surrender and are jailed pending grand jury review.
