Southern iron committee report shows rising district tonnage

The September report of the Southern iron committee notes a considerable increase in tonnage handled by railroads in the southern district. Anniston ranks third in shipments, 423 tons behind Chattanooga in second. total shipments for pig iron steel rails billets and cast iron pipe reach 187,089 tons, with steel shipments totaling 2,545 to 3,165 tons in various categories. Exports rise slightly with 341 tons sent westward, and railroads report heavier pig iron and freight shipments since the new freight tariff took effect on the 10th, reducing charges by 50 cents per ton.

Three Registrars Named in Each Montgomery County

Montgomery Oct 20 Under a new law three registrars will be appointed in each county before July 1 1904 by the governor auditor and commissioner of agriculture who will register all entitled to register before October 1 1904. Eligibility includes literacy of the constitution ownership of land or personal property or illness absence from the state preventing previous registration. The appointment will be acted on within ten days.

Robbery Trial Today in City Court

The trial of Will Williamson alias Will Sewell for grand larceny and robbery opens today in the city court. He is charged with helping rob Moore of 220 in June after getting him drunk. Williamson was later captured in Columbus, Georgia, and is defended by Lapsley Arnold Martin and Matthews Whiteside.
