Special to the Star Newport News Oct. 6 The armored cruiser North Carolina was launched at Newport News Shipbuilding. Gov Glenn led a large delegation as the ship slid into the James River amid cheers. The vessel, about half complete, features 14 10 inch and 16 8 inch guns, 23 3 inch guns, and a 23,000 horsepower engine.
