The Feast of Tabernacles begins its eight day observance with daily prayers in booths decorated with palm and willow. Families acquire lulab and etrog from the rabbi and wave them to the four quarters, culminating in the Great Hosanna and the joyous eighth day of law.
The grand jury for the District of Columbia brought fifteen new indictments tied to the post office department investigation. Targets include James N. Tyner former assistant attorney general and Harrison J. Jarrett, James T. Metcalf, Norman Metcalf Harry Hallenbeck and others in connection with money order blanks stamp cancelling machinery and free delivery. State Senator George A. Green of New York also faces charges.
County commissioners will elect four successors to J L Nunnally as manager of the poor farm this week. Nunnally may run again. opponents include Will Banks and Ben Jones. Inmate pay varies by contract. discussion grows of a salaried position. Inmates total twenty, the lowest in years, signaling possible prosperity in old Calhoun.

Earle Webb, about twenty, of Piedmont, was mortally wounded by an accidental shotgun discharge at his home Saturday night. The shot badly lacerated his left hand, leading to amputation of four fingers. He collapsed during surgery and died yesterday morning. Webb, cousin of county commissioner Ira J. Davis, was mourned by locals. his remains were buried at Pleasant Gap.
A list of subscriptions to the Spike Mill and Cooperage Plant shows a fund of 10000 being raised. Names appear with varied amounts including 100, 50, and 200 in multiple entries. the list includes individuals such as J Owens, president of Anniston College, and others with local ties.
Hugh MacNalty a wealthy beef merchant died of heart failure while kneeling in prayer at the Church of the Ascension in New York on October 6.
Mr Raymond Holland died at his home on West Fifteenth street last night shortly after six o'clock. The remains were carried to Piam Springs church near McFall.

The Barlow Minstrels arrived from Rome and will perform tonight after a noon parade and band concert. Known for high quality entertainment under J A Coburn, the show promises first class spectacle for local audiences.
The funeral occurred this afternoon at 2 30. Cause of death was typhoid fever after several days illness. Mr Holland of Holland Bros was esteemed for noble character. He belonged to Oxford Lodge No 185 IOOF and was interred with lodge honors. He leaves a wife and four children.
The Calhoun County Medical Association held a quarterly session at Hotel Alabama with 19 of 21 members present. Luncheon preceded business and papers. speakers included Dr. L. Morris of Birmingham and Dr. A. G. Harrison of Talladega.
