Mob Attacks Jail Nabs and Hangs Walter Davis in Texas

A mob of hundreds forced entry into a Texas jail using a pole and sledge hammers, abducted Walter Davis, a Black man, and hanged him at a willow tree after a constable was killed by ambush. Marshall Musketeers arrived too late as the crowd spirited Davis away. The scene ended with quiet.

Montgomery Oct. 2 The governor appoints Hon Henry B Foster of Tuscaloosa as judge of the County Court to fill the vacancy caused by Judge J J Mayfield's resignation after being elected codifier. Foster moves from solicitorship and Hon B Verner of Tuscaloosa County becomes solicitor.

Boundary shift favors Calhoun as Clebur ne line altered

The governor approved a boundary change between Cleburne and Calhoun counties a few miles south of Oxford. A small territory adds seven or eight families to Calhoun county for easier legal business and voting, benefiting residents nearer Anniston than Edwardsville.

Murphree Recaptured After Sensational Escape

In Oneonta Alabama Sheriff Aldredge recaptured Mayburn Murphree who had escaped from Blount County jail after a fine unpaid of 700 dollars. Murphree fled January 4 with accomplice La nier Gurley aided by Miss Etta Aldredge the sheriff daughter who held the jail keys. Murphree was recaptured in Calhoun County following new information.

Egg shipment reveals newly hatched chicks in crate

In Pittsburg a Maysville Ky shipment of eggs arrived in a refrigerator car and was moved to storage. While handling, worker Louis Rudolph heard a noise and found eight live chicks among sixty dozen eggs in one crate, still with shells and damp from hatch.

Riot Follows Arrest Attempt In Oxford Village

Blood-streaked streets and flying bullets marked a violent night in Oxford as two hostile Kentuckians sparked a riot. One man, badly wounded, was rescued from a mob with a rope hanging from a tree limb while prayers were said before the perilous escape. Four men were wounded and a fifth escaped death as chaos erupted over Marshal Woodruff’s attempt to arrest Louis Spivey of Wagonville Kentucky.

Capt Richmond Pearson Hobson, famed Merrimac hero, arrives in Anniston at 6:28 PM over the Southern Railway. He will stay at Hotel Alabama and lecture at the Auditorium tonight on the American Navy to benefit the gymnasium.
