Eva McKenzie Poison Plot Arrested After Water Poisoning
Eva McKenzie a black girl eighteen years old confessed to lacing a water jug with strychnine at the Woodruff home four miles north of the city. Mrs M W Woodruff survived after quick treatment and the suspect was taken to county jail for preliminary hearing. An arrest of Bob McKenzie, her father, followed amid claims he induced the act.

Overcoats Planned for Alabama National Guard
Montgomery November 20 Aimed by Adjutant General Brandon to secure regulation overcoats for all active Alabama National Guard members. Five hundred coats for each of three regiments plus cavalry and artillery, cost just over 15 thousand dollars funded by the national government. Requisitions will go to the War Department in days, coats expected in a month to six weeks. The Guard is currently well equipped except for winter overcoats and has funds on hand from a prior appropriation.

Fifty Coke Ovens Planned By New Attalla Venture
A new company formed this week, the Coosa Valley Deal and Iron Company, aims to develop coal mines near Attalla and immediately build fifty coke ovens with a 150 ton per day capacity. Mr. W. E. Knox, president and future executive head, holds large stock in the venture. The $100,000 capitalization will fund rapid coke production to supply southern iron plants.

Montgomery November 20 The canvassing board finished tallying votes on the ratification of the new constitution. Returns show a majority of 28,429 for ratification.
