A fearful fire deep underground at a Colorado mine traps workers and sparks a large fatal disaster with numerous casualties. Rescue teams race against smoke and collapse as officials assess causes and the number of dead and missing.
In Telluride Colorado a mine fire from a bunk house flue filled the bullion tunnel with deadly smoke. The day shift of 200 men had just ended their shift when the fire started. About half escaped while seventeen of the twenty-two victims died in the tunnel and slopes before rescue could reach them.
Huntsville reports growing support for Gen Joseph Wheeler as a U S Senate candidate. Backers in the Eighth district plan a campaign against incumbent Senator Pettus, banking on Wheeler’s potential cross-state backing from Huntsville and allies.
Rescue teams report seventy five to ninety workers on the ninth level as flames trapped others on the seventh. Gas and smoke prevented entry for twelve hours after the fire began, delaying exploration and recovery efforts.

The City National Bank plans to open on December 2 with renovations ongoing at the former Bank of Anniston building. A government bank expert will arrive to finalize preparations for the opening on December 3. President M B Wellborn and cashier J W McHreath lead the new bank, authorized by the Treasury and the comptroller of the currency William Ridgely.

A lighted match dropped by Geo H Johnston of the firm caused a large fireworks lot to explode at the R C Johnston and Bros store on Noble Street. The blast created a loud noise and smoke filled the store, but only the goods were destroyed with little other damage.
The official count of the vote on ratification of the new constitution shows a majority of 26,879, revised from the previously reported 28,429. The figure updates yesterday's dispatches and confirms the constitutional approval.
