Mobile Opposes Ratification by Narrow Margin in Alabama
Mobile county including the city reported a seven vote majority against ratification of the new constitution. Rev Sam Jones blamed for the slim verdict saying his revival sermons attacked the measure. He claimed he could draft a better constitution in a week aided by a stump tailed lawyer and a stenographer. He called the constitution sinful for perpetuating liquor traffic and tax funded education from whiskey licenses.

Shelley Still Claims State in Favor of New Constitution
General Charles M. Shelley announced late returns from Alabama counties showing 37 of 66 counties carried for ratification with an aggregate majority around 29,400 and suggested more counties may lean toward approval including Bullock Cleburne Escambia Moore Pickens and Pike.
New Officers Named for Anniston Rolling Mill
At the board meeting yesterday afternoon Anniston Rolling Mill elected Frank C. Irvine secretary and Levi treasurer after J. P. Burgess resigned to oversee St Louis district duties for Republic Iron and Steel. Irvine, once shipping clerk, and Levi, a longtime financial backer, are praised for leadership as the mill gains momentum with skilled workers and months of booked orders.

Father and Son Held on Serious Charges
C W Cofield and his son were brought before the mayor in police court today. The elder Cofield faces larceny of a buggy and harness while his son is charged with bringing stolen goods into the city. Both cases continued until tomorrow morning. The elder was arrested around 2 a m at home and jailed. the son was taken into custody Tuesday. The property belonged to Deputy Marshal J Edwards who stored his horse and buggy at the old stable on Meverentreet near the city hall. The elder allegedly hitched a mule to the buggy and drove it 50 miles away, later sending the son back with the buggy. The deputy marshal found only the horse. The son claimed his father sent him back with the buggy. The elder’s arrest followed.

Citizens of Anniston held an informal meeting with forty leading businessmen to revive the old commercial club. A committee including William H. Zinn W W Stringfellow J W Woelfelk W H Weatherly T E B Kilby J C Sproul and J B Goodwin was named to draft a plan. The group aims to reorganize on a firm basis to promote railroads new industries German farmers and a training camp with officers likely including a president secretary treasurer and board of advisors.
