Elmer Dobbins son of Mr and Mrs J N Dobbins of Anniston struck oil in Beaumont where he bored the first big well and later several others. He has earned an estimated eighteen to twenty thousand dollars in five months and plans for his parents to join him in Jenkins Louisiana near Beaumont. His brother Drew Dobbins also profited, while J N Dobbins prepares to sell his livery business to move the family to Beaumont.

Southern Railway Machinists Strike Rests Across South
In Knoxville Tennessee on May 30, 122 Southern Railway machinists and helpers walked out. Reports state shops in Salisbury North Carolina also halted and Birmingham machinists joined. The International Association of Machinists led by President O Connell ordered the strike, with demands for nine hour days and a 24 percent wage increase. The union claims 95 percent of Southern machinists may strike tomorrow.
