Cincinnati May 29 Captain Ike T Jobe is described as a physical wreck in the Columbus penitentiary He secured government transportation and forged his name as a government officer He passed as an officer in the Cuban army after the Spanish American War He was convicted of fraudulently securing and disposing of government transportation and sentenced to the penitentiary A letter to the district attorney asking about a pardon was followed by a report from the penitentiary surgeon describing his skull injury melancholia and prison humiliation as the prime cause of health decline A parole recommendation may be sent to the President for consideration
Anniston residents recall Capt Ike T. Jobe a prominent figure at Camp Shipp in the era of large garrisons and crucial commissary supplies. He served in the commissary department and became known across military and civilian circles. After leaving Anniston his path grew tumultuous and he was later confined at the military penitentiary in Columbus Ohio, with potential clemency mentioned in a recent dispatch.

In Talladega May 29 a negro woman Hentah Wabbs died suddenly last Saturday afternoon under suspicious circumstances. Coroner Heine called for a jury after a lengthy inquiry. The jury’s sealed verdict was reached after examining many witnesses over two days. Hentah Wabbs was the daughter of J. P. Barton, a prominent local Baptist preacher.
