The Minnesota board seeks requisition papers to bring back thirty husbands who deserted their wives. A new law makes wife desertion a felony with imprisonment from one to three years, suspended only if the husband bonds to support his wife and family. Deserting husbands are spread across several states, creating potential legal complications.
Ullman Bros advertise a full line of boys wash pants for ages 4 to 15 priced at 25 to 50 cents plus Blue Serge Cassimere and Worsted pants for ages 4 to 16 priced 25 cents to 1 dollar. Local shoppers are invited to browse the selection.
Literally thousands lined Noble Street and the Midway for the beautify carnival parade in Anniston this afternoon. From 1 p.m. into the evening, crowds packed Tenth to Thirteenth streets and Quintard to Noble, with observers estimating about eight thousand witnesses to the event.
The Carnival parade in Anniston dazzled spectators with beautifully bedecked carriages floats and regal pageantry. Guests rode in automobiles filled with charming visitors while gorgeous chariots and royal displays highlighted a day of beauty and splendor.
An old advertisement touts photographs at Russell Bros Gallery with shoes offered at 98 cents for a pair valued at $1.50. The notice also markets a one dollar per dozen deal and points to the Combined Store at 1016 Noble Street.
The parade formed at Tenth street and Quintard avenues at 3 30 oclock with Police, Marshal and aides, Mayor and City Council, Band, King of the Carnival, Anniston s Queen of the Carnival, Maids of Honor to Anniston s Queen, Talladega s Queen of the Carnival, Maids of Honor to Talladega s Queen, Gadsden s Queen of the Carnival, Maids of Honor to Gadsden s Queen, Gadsden Police, Oxford s Queen of the Carnival. Tonight Anniston hosts the carnival ball, the season’s most brilliant social function. The city bustles with beauty and chivalry as guests from many cities gather under soft theater lights to dance to inspiring music, marking a peak in the carnival celebrations. Fans and visitors fill the streets, as anticipation grows for the evening’s splendor.
President McKinley and Cabinet meet in an El Paso plaza as American and Mexican flags intertwine in decorations. General Hernandez and the Chihuahua governor attend, marking an international moment with thousands of Mexican spectators and a strong crowd of Americans. The same day, Brenton reports a special train through Arizona reaching Benson at 8:30 p.m. and Phoenix in the morning.
The city street committee awarded the contract at noon to Pat H. O'Brien to open and grade Tenth street west from the Kilby Locomotive and Machine works to the city limits. Work will begin immediately with half the cost paid by the city and half by local property owners and business interests along the street.
