Washington reports Captain Leary, U S Navy, likely to be relieved as Governor of Guam after orders that offended. He says the church bell ban aimed to reduce seventeen typhoid cases in the marine garrison. Admin approves Governor Levy’s order ending slavery in Guam but denounces other orders.
Broupton census supervisor Daniel Jones spoke to about 110 applicants for the position of enumerator in the vacant store room at Tenth and Noble Streets this morning. He explained the work and said no appointments were made yet. He'll return later as enumeration begins.
Mr Leon A Sterne buys the business and becomes sole proprietor while Sterne name is kept. A Sterne will assist in management and Lesh Sterne is noted for popularity and integrity with strong family ties. Colunbus Smith joins as cover, bringing experience and a large network of friends.
Subscriptions to Andson Yarn Mill stock grow with 500 from O F Letariere the drummer linked to Fairchild res. Foster of New York. A G Allens Big Original New Orleans Minstrel show of over 80 in cars heads to town with a tent for 2000 at Thirteenth and Moore streets. Early returns place McAraw ahead in the county primary.
The Consolidated Lime Company forms a $3,000,000 capital trust uniting 30 firms. Read list includes Princeton Lime Co in Kentucky, Bonhall entries in Tennessee Alabama Georgia Florida and Arkansas with names like John A. Nenos Sons and Ocala Lime Co among others. Output slated at about 900 000 barrels yearly.
The Republican executive committee in Birmingham fixed Montgomery as the convention site and April 19 as the date. The move, taken over Ad Wimbs protest, endorses the Vaughn Bingham agreement reached in Washington between the leading contenders for state chairman.
The House Committee on Military Affairs approved a favorable report on a memorial park bill. The proposed park would cover the largest battle field in the world in Virginia, including sites such as Chancellorsville, Selimchivell, Fredericksturg, Spotealinry Court House, and the Wi Cerness among other famous battlefields.

The trial of Bunyan Taylor on forgery charges is postponed until next Tuesday morning at 1 o clock. Taylor allegedly presented a 272.50 check to the Famous last week, later found to be a forgery. The case will be heard before Justice J F Creen.
London reports serious alarm over the Anglo Russian crisis as orders are issued for the battleship Goliath cruiser Argonaut destroyers Otter and Janus and the sloop Rosario to be ready for an emergency.
A farmer, Mr. John S. Reaves, found a large bed of manganese ore on his farm about four miles northeast of Aus Histon. Specimens indicate an exceptionally good quantity, with experts believing an inexhaustible supply at the hill’s base.
Twenty five peasants drowned today while crossing the Danube at the village of Paaks near Vienna. The accident was reported by Union Associated Press from Vienna dated March 2. Local fishermen and authorities began rescue operations and investigated the incident.
A blaze swept the National White Lead Company complex at Port Richmond on Staten Island destroying the big buildings. The fire caused extensive damage estimated at a hundred thousand dollars and disrupted operations at the Port Richmond plant. Police and fire units battled the flames through the morning hours while investigators began assessing the cause.
The Woman's Missionary Society of Parker Memorial Baptist church holds a week of prayer and home meetings. Afternoon sessions were held yesterday at Mrs. Jd. H. Allen's on Quintard avenue and will continue at various members' homes including Tyler Hill Wilmer street Walnut street and Marvin Hill with a probable Saturday gathering at Mrs. Bowcock on Leighton avenue.
Mrs. J. Rand leaves for New York to buy spring and summer dry goods dress goods millinery and notions. She plans a two week trip to add to Rand's already large stock and meet trade demand with tasteful purchases.
Mayor Henderson ordered tight security after chain gang escapes. No person may speak to or communicate with any prisoner without permission from the mayor, chief of police, or city warden. The 1900 directive aims to curb further escapes by restricting inmate interactions.

London March 20 The War Office has no confirmation of the report that Mafeking has been relieved. The Associated Press dispatches say relief may have occurred but official word is lacking.
