London reports Mafeking still resists as Boer forces push to sever the railroad behind General Plumer. Methun’s forces are forty four miles from Kimberley while Volunters face a desperate siege and looming shortages.
Berlin dispatch reports the foreign office denying any continuation of peace negotiations with England over South Africa. Berlin says Salisbury's reply to Kruger and Steyn’s telegrams is seen as an answer to powers seeking to intervene.
Scenes of violence mark peace advocacy events in England with many meetings abandoned. In Edinburgh a speaker was rescued by police as students threatened to attack.
A Times despatch from Aliwael in the North says Commandant Oliver has retreated toward Kronstadt. He confiscated all food at Rouxville provoking a plea to General Brabant for aid, which is not available at present.
Deputy Collector J W Kitchens led a posse in Randolph County finding a moonshine outfit in the northern area. Stills had been pulled and a large quantity of beer and mash destroyed. One operator, Josh Emory, captured near the still and sent to Roanoke. A second still found Friday afternoon. operators fled, material moved, remaining supplies destroyed. no arrests.
The Bryan Anniversary club of Chattanooga will hold its annual banquet tonight to celebrate William J. Bryan's fortieth birthday. Rourke Cochran will deliver the address.
Mr. Joe Beavers a bricklayer of West Eleveth street accidentally shot himself in the leg early this morning at the Eleventh street railroad crossing. The thirty eight calibre British bulldog pistol discharged in his pocket struck his thigh and traveled to the knee. He was taken home and treated. the bullet remains in the leg and he will be laid up for several weeks.
Mr Bryant L Maxwell and Miss Bessie Lee Shelnutt of this city were united in marriage by Rev L F Goodwin at his Oxanna home yesterday afternoon. The groom, well known and with many friends, and the bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs W C Shelnutt, will reside at Mead, Alabama, the groom's home.
Hon. W. F. Aldrich leads efforts to establish a regular mobilization camp at Anniston. A letter from Adjutant General H. Corbin, forwarded by Aldrich to Postmaster Smith, states that if a camp is set up in the South, Anniston would be a desirable location.
George McKinney and Will McKinney were captured at Sumter by Mr. L P Cooper and Constable J R Carroll. Will McKinney alias Yaller hammer was shot dead by Carroll, ruled justifiable manslaughter. Both prisoners faced police court sentences of six months on the street for their escape.
Mr. Gerard Schumacher of New York, secretary of the Central Foundry, arrived this morning to oversee extensive improvements and additions now under way at the local plant.
Mr. Frank MelIntyre wore a genuine shamrock on St Patrick's Day. It was sent from County Donegal by his brother, noting the kinship to the Emerald Isle. MeIntyre, born there, is described as a popular and honorable resident of Annister with a growing local business.

Bunyon Taylor, a MeFall resident, bought about 50 dollars worth of clothing from The Famous using a forged check for 72.50 drawn on the Bank of Oxford and signed by W. M. Thweatte. The check was later found forged. Taylor was arrested, identified by I Katzenstein, and goods were recovered. His trial is set for 10 a m tomorrow before Justice J I Creen.
Clarence Eddy renowned organist and A H Lough travel from New Orleans to Anniston tomorrow morning. They will proceed to Atlanta for a Trinity Church recital tomorrow night where Lough assists Eddy. A May 3 recital at St Michael's Church may be arranged if possible.
A crank in the big engine at Southern Car and Foundry Companys rolling mill broke around 3 this morning. The department is idle until repairs, expected in two to three days.
Louisville March 19 Republican leaders Caleb Powers Capt Davis Hazelip and Culton charged in Gov Goebel murder did not face examination as scheduled. The prosecution seeks a continuance to Thursday due to absent witnesses while Republicans establish a secret organization to defend the accused by legal means and by force if necessary.
Washington March 10 The Supreme Court in a limited decision in Waters Pierce Oil Co v Texas upholds the Texas anti trust law. Lawyers suppose the ruling does not resolve the broader constitutional questions involved.
Mr EK Elam, president of Elam Drug Co and originator of Oil of Joy, returned from a two week business trip. He reported strong demand and easy placement of large orders as the product gained fame as a pain reliever.
