Leaders of American thought gather at the Alabama hotel for the annual Anniston Chamber of Commerce meeting and banquet. President BE Turner presides, speakers praise city founders, community effort, and local assets including the Presbyterian College and Hale Bogey Company.
A Saturday noon meeting at the county courthouse will organize a county fair association. Officers will be elected and the fair placed on a solid footing. The subscriptions committee aims to raise enough stock to fund a first class fair, with city and country attendance encouraged. The organization will be incorporated and begun legally after completion.
In Chicago last night meetings at Eleventh and Lincoln denounced Senator Lorimer and called for his resignation. Similar demonstrations are planned across Illinois, signaling broad opposition to his tenure.
Rev W O Stephen, secretary of the Anniston Ministerial Alliance, reports a bill to legalize baseball on the Sabbath. The alliance votes unanimously to protest, urging patriotic citizens to unite against what they call desecration of the Sabbath and warning of divine retribution.
Hon Fred L Blackmon was in Washington last week and qualified as representative from Alabama's Fourth district. He will take his seat in the extra session called by President Taft for April 4th and is optimistic about Democratic led legislation.

United States prepares for a border show of force with thousands to be mobilized amid the Mexican revolution. Officials insist it is for training, while retired officers call it a warlike display. Reports claim a Sunday battle at Casas Grandes leaves many dead among 500 insurgents and federal troops.
Mexican capital is alight with speculation that American troops are invading and marching on Mexico City. Concurrent censored reports claim insurrect victories in the north and possible critical illness of President Diaz, creating unrest unmatched since last year’s revolution.
The first 4000 regular troops arrived in Galveston today. Additional units are to arrive daily through Saturday. The port will serve as the base for naval operations as well.
In San Antonio Texas fifty troop trains move toward the city as 20 000 U S regulars expected to arrive tomorrow. Fort Sam Houston prepares 600 acres for cantonment with war scale preparations underway today.
A Wednesday closing transfers Shinbone valley iron ore lands to James M. McParnett from O. M. Alexander for about 20000 dollars. Promoter MecBurnett’s Great Southern Iron and Development Company would use the property to open an Anniston outlet toward an Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic link at Pyriton or Lineville, reviving plans tied to Captain R. F. Kolb’s earlier venture.
John H. Ganzel manager of the Rochester New York baseball team arrives with Mrs. Ganzel and daughter and checks into the Alabama hotel in Anniston. He says the team will arrive by Sunday and begin training Monday with free public sessions at the park. A Philadelphia exhibition game is eyed for late next week.
Montgomery March 8. A public meeting of the House Ways and Means Committee to consider the new revenue bill was postponed until tonight due to a lack of quorum.
The Alabama legislature discussed the appellate court bill likely securing Judge John Pelham a judicial appointment. Arnold's high school bill would convert the Frances E Willard School at Piedmont into a state institution. The normal school bill also impacts Jacksonville's state school. A Montgomery special notes the 11 o clock session when the house began consideration of the appellate court bill with Representative Horton of Limestone offering an amendment.
New York March 8 Twenty two trunks and many traveling cases and hat boxes left by Mrs Katherine Clemmons Gould at the Hotel 81 Aegis as security for an unpaid board bill were included in a lot of unclaimed baggage sold at auction today Mrs Gould left the baggage two years ago and the hotel has been unable to reach her at her Lynchburg Va home or her former husband Howard Gould who disclaims responsibility The debt to St Regis is said to exceed 5 000 including rent and entertainments and parties.
Street Overseer W. F. Parker inaugurated the program Wednesday morning as a city team cleans trash from parks and streets and undertakes spring improvements under the direction of a street gang.
