Mayor Wikle demands the city of Anniston receive its pro rata share of the road and bridge fund from property owners. The county commissioners delay a decision and may rule this week, risking impairment of county road improvements.
Paris March 7 The first aero plane map is expected to appear for aviators. Major Pollachi drew the map for the army geographical department. Roads are white on pale pink, woods green, ground relief shaded, towns in red, cathedral spires and towers marked with signs, telegraph wires shown, and special symbols indicate ground nature and landing places.
News from Monterey Mexico reports Alberto Iazzini a member of a top local family was killed near Batophilas Chihuahua by insurrectos while protecting mining property he managed. He was engaged to marry a prominent Monterey woman.
A campaign to remove Senator Stephenson of Wisconsin will be pushed at an extra session of Congress after anti Stephenson lawmakers voted at a meeting. The motion cites alleged fraud and bribery in his election.
Wood Ayres who faced trial for murdering his mother in law was shot to death near midnight as he rode home along the Bowling Green pike. More than fifty men hid in the brush and riddled him with bullets, leaving seventy five bullets found in his body. Ayres was out on bond pending a new murder trial.
The body of J. W. Hawke, manager of Coosa Manufacturing Company mills and prominent Piedmont citizen, died suddenly in J. T. Gardner’s office after an acute indigestion fit. Hawke had just eaten lunch with George P. Ide of Jacksonville and had returned from Montgomery where they opposed coal-rate increases for local mills. The body was sent to Piedmont and then to Swarthmore, Pa., his former home, for burial. his wife, son, and two daughters survive. The incident occurred shortly after he declared he felt well during the visit.
