Washington March 4 The nation prepared for the second McKinley inauguration as crowds and civic bodies moved toward the capital. At 10 a.m. Theodore Roosevelt of New York was sworn in as vice president amid ceremonies attended by the President and a distinguished company.
Washington March 4 The inaugural day ends with a vast crowd filling the capital as Vice President Roosevelt takes the oath in the Senate chamber before the President and dignitaries. President McKinley’s oath on the Capitol portico draws a crowd of well over a million spectators.
As reported by TH FXnaara correspondent Ken Tsin, Count Waldersee renews authority to allied troops to prepare for a possible expedition on March 7. Shanghai’s Sadard correspondent notes rumors Prince Chang may be ordered similarly if Yuen Shi Kai's bodyguard transport leaves Wednesday from Ho Nan province to escort Steampeter to Pekin.
