Anniston now has a direct telephone line to Birmingham shortening long distance chats with friends in The Magic City and enabling easier talks with Montgomery Mobile Nashville and other cities linked to Birmingham. Manager W T Warlick led the effort over months to secure these advantages for the Anniston exchange and its patrons.
A Ward 2 meeting in Anniston endorsed John Boozer and L R Ramey for city council. Ramey and Boozer will run in the Democratic primary Thursday against George F Wilson and George W Jones, with G Weitzel having withdrawn from the race after a resignation yesterday.

The Glen Addie Hose Company No 2 elected officers last night with Thomas Birch as President W A Rose as Vice President R D Richardson as Foreman John Rose as Assistant Foreman Charles T Robertson as Recording Secretary J W Robertson as Financial Secretary Lon E Rich as Treasurer Dr E C Anderson as Surgeon G E W Robertson and J J Lynch as Trustees Walter Jackson and Lee as Couriers The installation is set for next Monday night at the company hall on Fourth street with an enjoyable time anticipated.
Dr and Mrs T W Ayers and four children Harry Cary William and Emmett depart Anniston tomorrow at 1 45 PM on the Louisville and Nashville southbound train bound for Hwang Hien China for a six year home assignment. The Anniston Rolling Mill, recently purchased by Mesars Rolley and Davies through Capt. W. H. McKleroy and the old Anniston Rolling Mills Co, will start operations on March 15. The plant is being overhauled and expanded to hire about one hundred fifty skilled workers, with plans to produce bar iron and structural iron for a growing Southern market.
A horse owned by William Miller of East Pleasant Street in Springfield was seized today after showing rabies symptoms. Police killed the animal after it bit a man and several other horses being driven along the streets.
Dr. T. W. Jordan, dean of the University of Tennessee, has been offered the presidency of the University of Alabama. He has not announced whether he will accept the position.
