In Montgomery Alabama the third regiment Alabama National Guard encampment at Highland Park drew attention as Governor assured officers of stricter discipline. He warned he would muster out any officer unable to command his men. The move created a sensation among troops and officials.
A brief note mentions large clean towels cap and brushes and polite service at Finley's Bath Rooms operated by Love Drug Co.
Rome reports no marked change in the pope's condition. He had a fairly comfortable night with intervals of sleep and his status today remains about the same as yesterday.
Rome dispatch reports two cardinals including a candidate state that Cardinal Gibbons and any foreign cardinal have no chance of succeeding Pope Leo. The claim relies on Vatican authority and the sacred college’s stance.
The Baptist Young People's Union of America closed its Atlanta gathering with no site chosen for next year's convention. Asbury Park St. Louis and Toronto are candidates. Rev Dr John W Conley preached the convention sermon and Rev Eugene Sallee spoke on missions before delegates departed for home.
Mr. William A. Davis appointed by Governor Jeiks as Calhoun County tax commissioner selects Mr. L. Quinn as deputy. Quinn formerly served many years as Anniston city tax collector and is deemed highly qualified. Davis has begun duties. Quinn starts immediately. Office likely in Anniston City Land Co. building where Davis manages the Land Co.
A Montgomery report speculates Judge Thomas G. Jones of the United States circuit court may be named to the circuit court of appeals after a vacancy arises. The gossip cites his efforts against peonage and suggests Roosevelt could appoint him when a judge retires.
A fierce cloudburst in Winchester Virginia submerged the town under three to six feet of water causing extensive property damage. In Baltimore Maryland a violent storm unroofed fifty homes and levelled walls within a four block area injuring twenty and causing about one hundred thousand dollars in damage.
Ullman Bros have been awarded the contract for all carpets and shades in the new hotel in Alabama. The large contract was secured over several Atlanta rivals and closed in Atlanta on Saturday with Leon Ullman and Hy. J. Young present. Work will begin immediately and be pushed rapidly.
Last night a series of revival meetings began at the Second Presbyterian church at Brown avenue and Fifteenth street. Rev. John O Hall of First Cumberland Presbyterian church will assist Rev. K. Henderlite this week, with Prof. J. C. Bovenkirk Jr. conducting a song service 30 minutes before each meeting. Services are set for 4 PM and 7 30 PM daily.
The Anniston Water Supply Co. continues in the Mallory building with a partition creating a second office. E L Turner & Co will relocate from South Noble to the newly divided space once prepared, sharing the building with the water company.
Furnace No. 4 of Woodstock Iron Works will not be blown in today but tomorrow. The delay is blamed on an unlucky thirteenth day, though actual cause is incomplete blows in. It has been shut two months for necessary repairs. Also an advertisement for Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets from J L Wikle Druggist.
Montgomery July 13. The boys at Camp Graham held a quiet Sabbath with services and a dress parade. It was announced camp will break Tuesday morning and a special train will take them home after breakfast. Governor Jelks will attend the Governor's day review as fall staff by his side.

The Commercial club of Anniston invites citizens to a Wednesday 4 30 pm meeting in the courthouse. The gathering aims to perfect club organization and address several matters of interest with emphasis on member attendance and broad civic participation.
