Carriers began registering letters and packages in Anniston this morning under the new order. First day satisfactory with many patrons using carrier registration to avoid trips to the post office. The system aims to ease sending mail and is tested in a select group of cities.
Department officials report the new registration method is thriving in Anniston. The city experiences satisfactory results and rapid growth in adoption. Postmaster L. T. Smith led efforts, making Anniston one of few southern cities with carrier registration for a city of its size.
Ten bodies lie among rocks in St Marys Bay as gales hamper rescue efforts in St Johns Newfoundland. Weather prevents boats from approaching the wreck and recovery teams await calmer seas to identify the vessel from debris and wreckage wedged in rocks.

Mrs. John Adams, mother of W. Y. Adams, died last night at about ninety years of age after living with her son for fifteen years since her husband’s death. Interment will be in Oxford cemetery this afternoon. The family praises her Christian character and wide circle of friends. Also noted is J A Koyle opening a grocery at 505 Glen Addie Street, in the former Todd shop, and street improvements south of the G P depot.
The Anniston city court opened the spring term with civil cases set from January through March. Judge Lapsley announced civil docketing now and criminal matters later in March. A large group of lawyers attended as cases were read and dates fixed, including January 9, 22, 23, 26, 30, 31 and February 1 with various filings and motions.
Madison Ga January 14 W A Williams the emigrant agent has been jailed for safety after a mob of farmers threatened his life at Greensboro due to his role sending 2500 Black migrants from Greene and Morgan counties to Mississippi Texas and Arkansas over the past six weeks.
Oxford notes Floyd Bagley resigns from Cooper and Co and goes to Anniston Business College. Itoss Mattison moves from Oxford Cotton Warehouse to Anniston Rolling Stock Co. Local visits, college enrollments, illnesses, and small business updates fill the page along with sermons and a grocery store sale.
Kruger issues another address and confirms Providence is on his BOERS preparing for a fight. Indications point to a great battle near Ladysmith within days, with headquarters at Colenso. Rockets have been fired from Ladysmith for two nights. objective unclear.

Mr. C. R. Barker returned today from a brief trip to Birmingham. Mr. John Stilwell of Gadsden spent Sunday in the city mingling with his many friends. Mr. J. H. L. King went up to Jacksonville this afternoon.
