President Sexton announces there is no Commercial Club in existence and calls a meeting of citizens of Anniston. He notes the club was reorganized last year with promises of real work and cooperation, but that initial momentum faded after the first meetings.
Mr Sexton announces the dissolution of Aniston’s Commercial Club after years of inactivity. He credits Mr Zinn for his unpaid efforts locating several plants and says Zinn will present proposals at an upcoming meeting. A new organization will be needed to advance the city’s industrial and commercial growth.
The Southern Car and Foundry plant in this city is expanding its workforce rapidly. The large facility is running at full capacity, especially in the rolling mill and iron working departments, with two shifts in operation and continuous work day and night. District Manager O. M. Stimson stated the plant is being pushed to its greatest capacity as quickly as workers can be added and that orders are plentiful.
Sheriff Glover of Talladega County and County Solicitor J. J. Arnold of Jacksonville are in the city. Captain James Crook of Jacksonville and Wim Deman, a Montgomery education department clerk, are in the city today.

The Democratic primary in Talladega County narrowed several offices with J B Woodward named tax collector H Henderson treasurer and B F Chett chosen county commissioner from the Fourth district. The sheriff tax assessor and Second district commissioner races go to runoffs with J B Edwards W T Dean Robert B Burts M M Duncan and D H Thiveatt T SP Elliot as candidates. Henderson defeated W E Dickinson for treasurer by 667 votes. An announcement also invites applicants for carpet factory work at Anniston Carpet, manager James Backler.
Commissioner Randolph notes a surge in land applications for homestead entries. In four weeks he received more requests than in all prior months, with fees of 86 for 40 nerves or 16 for 160 acres and six months to file. After five years occupation a patent is granted. land surrounds the city, suitable for vineyards peas trees and stock raising.
The city board of education voted to establish a new public school at the old Leighston Avenue building, formerly Noble Institute then Boys High. It will be coed with free tuition, books only, opening on the 22nd or 27th. four teachers will be hired by a committee led by W F Johnston and D R Murphy to finalize dates and arrangements.

At last night’s meeting Alderman McKleroy backed two sidewalk paving ordinances and the fire department hose need. The council favored buying about a thousand feet of hose but budget limits blocked immediate purchase. The ordinances grant homeowners sixty days to fix sidewalks on Leighton Avenue and Noble Street before city paving proceeds and charges are billed to fronting property owners.
Lee Hollinsworth, a Black man from White Mains, was brought to the city by Deputy Sheriff McGinnis on a lumber larceny charge. He waived examination in county court and bondsman set at 100 dollars to await the next city court grand jury session. he posted bond and no other county court cases were docketed today.
The new proprietor on West Tenth Street pledges personal attention to the Empire steam laundry and asks existing patrons to continue service while aiming to attract new customers. Rex Perkins signs the notice.
