Memphis reports a double killing by armed residents when two peace officers enforcing vaccination laws were shot to death near Tipley. A Black man named Clingery resisted arrest, triggering an outbreak as locals armed themselves and hunted other participants.
Mr Edward McLeod III and Mr A N McLeod received a telegram stating Edward McLeod is near death at his Barbour County home. Edward McLeod's brother traveled to the bedside. Rev B McLeod has been there for several days.
Miss Mary Dudley Gray of Frankfort Kentucky returns home today after weeks as a charming guest of Mrs O M Reynolds on Tyler Hill. She attracted much attention and left Anniston with a large circle of friends and admirers.
The city merges ticketing for the Oxford Lake Line and Noble street routes. Five cent tickets will cover both lines, with the consolidation making only one ticket book needed and eliminating the previous two-book system. Transfers are not included.
Cotton futures strengthened today pushing four points above yesterday's close. Sugar plunged sensationally by twelve points though local speculators did not suffer significant losses.

New York January 10 Terry Mellowern defeated George Diton to claim the featherweight world championship. Diton had defended the title for years as the fight ended in the eighth round when his opponent’s force led to a stoppage by manager Tom Roarke. The bout drew a packed Broadway arena and a $10,000 purse.
Mr. J Eh Gaines of Cartersville arrived in the city yesterday with his family and will immediately establish a marble works. The Jianies family also joins, taking the home once occupied by Mr. J Allen and family on Nineteenth Street.
The Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers will meet next Saturday at 4 30 PM in Odd Fellow's hall Smith building to elect officers for six months. Current officers include KB H Quinn president Joseph Morgan vice president Ed Livingston financial secretary Joseph Little treasurer and others plus Fred Little national representative. About 150 members are active and urged to attend the year’s officer election.
Commissioners adjourned after noon and reported the county in excellent financial condition. Income paid all warrants and interest on bonded debt with only 51 dollars short. They credited careful cost cutting and sound management over the past eighteen months. Before adjourning John Proett, elected overseer of the poor house at Jacksonville, appeared to give the required heed.
Lagarde Lime and Stone company at Lagarde station conducted a test start yesterday. The plant, with about ninety men, aims for permanent operation within days. It boasts capacity for lime production and crushing thousand tons daily. City license deadline looms with penalties for noncompliance.

Gardner Me January 10 readers report that the American Ice Company, controlling New York Pennsylvania and Maine natural ice, aims to buy southern artificial ice plants. An agent surveyed southern plants to size capacity and value. Early targets include Atlanta Memphis Montgomery Birmingham Chattanooga Nashville with cash payments and stock balance. A general superintendent will manage the enterprise from Atlanta.
Mise Leone Robinson left today for Livingston to spend several weeks with relatives and friends, visiting kin and enjoying time away from home.
