In Tuskaloosa on February 21 thirteen negro miners were entombed when water from an abandoned shaft burst in two miles from the State Insane Asylum. Eleven escaped in a race for life, while rescuers pump out water. air access and time to clear the mine raise grim doubts about the entombed workers.
Articles of incorporation filed with Probate Judge E. I. Crook establish the Anniston Knitting Mills with capital of 25000 dollars. Stockholders include W. W. Stringfellow E. L. Tyler A. L. Tyler Jr and T. C. The Evening Star noted weeks earlier. The firm has purchased the old mill building and installed new machinery and will employ 75 to 100 operatives with W. W. Stringfellow E. L. Tyler and A. L. Tyler Jr as directors.
A major blaze in Atlanta destroyed the wholesale grocery house of J. J. and J. E. Maddox and an entire Collins Street block. The fire’s cause, total losses, and insurance are not yet determined. Maddox’s firm was among the South’s largest.
Montgomery Feb 21 The bill passed the house to cede to the United States for a limited time jurisdiction over the site for the erection of the government building in Anniston. The measure has passed the senate and awaits the governor's signature to become law. The government demanded jurisdiction before construction could begin, and with jurisdiction granted work may proceed.

Washington February 21 Senator Morgan expects Lieutenant Hobson to be advanced ten numbers for his distinguished conduct in Santiago harbor and believes his nomination will be confirmed before adjournment.
Messie Hlouser and Wolsoncroft begin a new storage warehouse addition for Central Foundry Company at its Western city plant. The structure measures 110 by 150 feet and rises a single story high.
Donahoo & Co have purchased the Anniston Broom works from the A. H. Smith estate located on Noble between Ninth and Tenth streets. W. D. Snow will remain as general manager. The plant, known for superior brooms, will continue under new proprietors with Snow retained to run operations. A note from Paducah, Kentucky, praises Foley's Kidney Cure via Elam Drug Co.
Mrs J W Mount passes away at her home near Fourth and Mulberry after a brief illness. A devout Christian woman, her death is deeply mourned by those who knew her. The remains will be buried in Edgemont Cemetery tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock.

In Bessemer on February 21 Mrs Mandy Foote wife of Chart A Foote was found at 2 30 PM with throat cut, a kitchen bloodstain scene and a bloodied knife beside the body. The little room showed evidence of a violent struggle as investigators noted the grisly wounds.
