Oxford Lake Fair Could Return To Good County This Year
Oxford Lake may host a county agricultural fair this year after the Northeast Alabama Fair Association abandoned the project. Local leaders, led by Howard W. Sexton, propose using park buildings and the Oxford Lake Line to offer ten cent round trips and free park use to attract exhibitors and visitors. premiums would be paid in full if funds allow, with pro rata payments if short to avoid debt and boost local display and advertising.
Evidence begins in Spears Burnett congressional contest
Attalla Alabama February 20. The evidentiary hearing in the case of B B Spears versus John L Burnett to contest Burnetts Seventh district seat opened Monday. Col William H Denson of Birmingham presides with Col W R Dorton of Gadsden assisting Burnetts side. One hundred witnesses are summoned mostly African American. Testimony will extend at least five days. Sixteen witnesses were examined yesterday with no fraud found.
