At Papucan Kentucky August 21 the Golconda disaster near Paducah claims many lives as bodies arrive for funeral services. Death toll may reach seventeen to twenty two with an official inquiry expected. Pilot A A Peck blames an engineer who allegedly deserted his post while the engineer says he stayed at the throttle until floodwaters rose.
Sheriff North arrives with ten armed deputies as Jim Brown the accused pleads not guilty. Judge Pelham orders a quiet trial with defense by Judge John W. Lazer and James A. Kabry. A large crowd gathers but restraint remains and support for the judge grows.
Preparations for Labor Day in the city on Monday September 2 are under way. J Livingston is named grand marshal by Echard of the Anniston Trades Council. Belshazzer band from Chattanooga and Elliott band will provide music. A key meeting of Labor Day committees is set for tonight at Elk's Hall. About 150 boys are needed for the parade and merchants are invited to enter floats. Citizens have generously funded the Labor Day effort.

A Whitesboro dispatch reports Abe Wilder, accused of killing Mrs. Caldwell of Grayson County, was captured by a mob and burned at Nelson's Ranch near Red Ranch. The event occurred last night, with further details continued on the next page.
