Firemen bravely battled a blaze at Atlantic Oil Refining in Point Breeze when a huge benzine tank exploded. Dozens were burned or injured as 10 to 12 tanks burned, with three to four men killed and many more hurt. losses are estimated near half a million dollars.
A Silver Ash Anniston cigar is enjoying a strong run locally as a popular union made option. For coal stove wood or drays call R. O. Watson at phone 72 for service and delivery.
The steamer City of Golconda, running between Paducah and Evansville, overturned in a squall near Crowell's Landing. Sixteen passengers drown as the vessel settled in ten feet of water. Captain Bauer and Pilot Peck survived. The disaster occurred during supper as chaos followed, and recovery efforts focused on rescuing survivors and securing valuables at the town bank.

A United States Fish Commission shipment of 200 black bass was released into Oxford Lake yesterday evening under A. G. Kersecker. The program moved 1300 fish from Birmingham. only a few fatalities occurred during transport. The fish, carried in large milk-can like containers, will be distributed to communities including Bellview, Gadsden, Attalla, Boaz, and Guntersville upon local permission. The car will proceed from Birmingham to Montgomery for further distribution.
