Southern Fast Train Wreck at Gastonia Ends in Wreck
No. 35 of the Southern railway derailed one mile north of Gastonia after an 11 pm explosion. Engineer Black and the colored fireman were seriously injured along with two postal clerks Birchfield and Sharpe. Passengers escaped major harm as the engine tender and cars were demolished and the train paused on impact.

Mrs Helen Webb Dies in City Home
Mrs Helen Webb died at her sister Mrs G W Linthicum's East Thirteenth street home yesterday afternoon after months of illness. Funeral service will be held at 3 PM today from the residence conducted by Rev Belt White of the Church of Christ. Interment will be at Edgemont cemetery. Mrs Linthicum and friends extend sympathy.
