Nuclear Stimulation via Underground Nuclear Explosions Feasible
A feasibility study by El Paso Natural Gas Company and U S Atomic Energy Commission among others concludes underground nuclear detonations in tight gas formations could triple or more gas production. The Gasbuggy project would use a 10 kiloton device in the San Juan Basin New Mexico to create fractures and a subterranean chamber for gas flow data collection. The plan foresees three years of data analysis after detonation and field work starting within weeks of approval.
