The county marks missing zero on the billionth barrel plaque, correcting average annual production to 60,000,000 barrels. A San Antonio foundry will stamp the missing zero, restoring the figure and quelling worries about unemployment on payrolls. Gulf Oil Corp. has staked three sites in Andrews County for 4,400 foot operations to serve as outposts to production in the Triple N Grayburg pool, which currently has five producing wells. Final rites for Edward Preston Cole aged 18 will be held at 3 p m today at Means Memorial Methodist Church with Dr C A Holcomb officiating. Interment follows in Andrews Cemetery under Singleton's Funeral Home. Cole, a May 1965 Andrews High School graduate, planned to enter Howard County Junior College in Big Spring this fall. He died Friday at Permian General Hospital after a four day illness. autopsy pending. He lived in Andrews for 10 years, was active in choir and MYF at Means Memorial. Survivors include his parents Mr and Mrs E Nile Cole and a sister and brother. Pallbearers are listed as well as honorary members of the A Cappella Choir.
The Rev. Cecil M. Tune has assumed duties as pastor of Wesley Methodist Church on NW Burton Route, replacing Rev. Phil Widmer who moved to Lub bock to be assistant pastor at First Methodist. Tune, from Lubbock, has 27 years in ministry and previously led Canyon Lakeview and Becton churches. He attended John Brown University and McMurry College. he and Lois have three children and reside at 412 SW 9th.
Southwest Blood Bank technicians will arrive Wednesday to collect donations for coverage under a blood insurance plan. Appointments can be made by calling the hospital laboratory at 33919. Donating a pint takes 35 to 45 minutes and can cover a husband, wife, and unmarried children under 19 for a year. Donors must be 18 to 60, with weight requirements of 125 pounds for men and 110 pounds for women, and avoid jaundice exposure.
Tommy Tonkin, 1965 Andrews graduate, earns a 4000 Moody Foundation four year college scholarship to the University of Texas. He is joined by Bill Austin, 1965 Andrews salutatorian, awarded an 800-300 Kleberg Foundation scholarship. Both students are UT-bound and active in UIL and local activities.
83 year old ex railroad engineer W. E. Parker is nominated for Andrews Father of the Year. His son is a missionary in Presidio and his daughters live in Houston. Parker recalls railroading, a train wreck, and a 1947 loss of wife Leslie in Santa Fe. He esteems friendly people today.
An Andrews oilfield district superintendent J. F. Jeansonne his wife and 16 year old daughter remain missing since June 11 after a private plane disappeared after they left Salt Lake City. Jeansonne is from Hobbs and serves the Fullerton district superintendent for Humble at Frankel City.
Andrews Jaycees and the Andrews Boys Club directors race a donkey baseball game at 3 p.m. at the Diamond League venue. Donkeys provided by Bennie Reynolds Co. of Colton California. Tickets 1 for adults 50 cents for children advance family price 2.50. Proceeds go to the Boys Club.
