Andrews town quieted as locals stayed home for vacations while officers Buff Angel and Kenneth Turner pursued a routine drive. A rear impact set their patrol car on fire nine miles south of town, injuring Angel and leaving Turner unhurt as responders rushed to the scene near midnight.

In Andrews County several companies including Standard Oil of Texas Pan American Petroleum and Southland Royalty announce stakes for Ellenburger tests and offsets from a recent pool opener. No. 1 Howell No. 1 Daggett No. 1 Robert Monaghan and No. 3 AU David Fasken are planned with offsets up to 13 000 feet 11 500 feet and 12 400 feet respectively. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary K. Shov, 67, were held at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Elmer M. Hohle officiating. Interment will follow at Sumner Cemetery, Perry, Oklahoma. Mrs. Shov, who died Wednesday at Permian General Hospital after an extended illness, had lived in Andrews with her daughter Mrs. Kenneth Mitchell. Surviving relatives include her son Arlie of Oklahoma City, three sisters, one brother, her daughter, and three grandchildren.
Council approves plan to revamp the corporation court aiming for formality and respect for traffic rules. A $1,000 courtroom upgrade is proposed with open sessions and a driver improvement program for repeat violators.
A two car crash on U S 385 near Odessa injures five people including two Andrews patrolmen. Patrolman Buff Angel and a passenger were hospitalized with neck injuries and bruises while Kenneth Turner escaped unharmed. Jordan Farris and Mildred Cash face licenses and speed charges as fire destroyed the patrol unit.
Four day trek begins from Andrews with more than 200 riders leaving at 6 a.m. led by Ray Briggs. The group travels to Pecos for the West of the Pecos rodeo parade and grand entry, with calf roping, barbecues, dances, and prizes for youth and elder riders. Joe Zant serves on the ride board.
Texas Tech coaching staff will visit Andrews on Thursday under the Red Raider Club. Joe Allbright leads arrangements for a golf outing at Andrews Country Club followed by film showings of the 1964-65 seasons. Club president Barnie Rushing and executives accompany the coaches, who include J. T. King Gene Gibson Bert Huffman and Vernon Hilliard.
Demolition of Devonian Elementary School is set to begin July 5. Olshan Demolishing Co. of Houston will establish an Andrews office this week after being the low bid of six at $12,879. The fire-destroyed school will be torn down in 65 days with a new facility planned for fall.
More than 400 entries are expected for the annual Highway 80 Tennis tournament July 5 to 7. The event, approved by the American Lawn Tennis Association, involves over 200 out of town competitors and is directed by Dr. Z W Hutcheson with Jack Coleman and Sam Gantt as co directors. Competition starts in Odessa and moves to Midland with stops in Andrews Lubbock San Angelo Sweetwater and Abilene. Four age divisions for singles and doubles include 12 and under 13 14 15 16 and men. Winners receive trophies.
The Andrews Pro Am and Invitational opens Friday at Andrews Country Club with three days of golf. More than 150 players compete for $3,000 in prizes. defending champ Rives McBee seeks a third straight title.
Final rites for 25 year old Mrs Jenny Sue Kalb, shot Wednesday, were held Friday at Singleton's Funeral Home. Additional services followed Saturday in Tulsa. The case, found at her Andrews home, involved a 32.20 Colt revolver. Peace Justice Owen Doggett ordered inquest awaiting Austin lab reports. She leaves two children and her Tulsa parents.
Mike Compton 20, former Andrews Little League standout, signed a bonus contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and will report to Huron in the Class A Northern League. The Sul Ross State College senior was a Bee Jay MVP and all state catcher with a .310 batting average and five RBIs last season.
