Ames Bonfire Night Echoes Past Big Event
In Ames a wild post victory celebration unfolds with down town soap boxes and inflammables moved to the college. A bonfire on State field is lit with donated oil as hundreds cheer and sing and a mock funeral for “Lowa” is staged with a wheelbarrow and a buried figure. Floral tributes and a vow to plant yearly honor the event. Mattress pad orders urged via Baptist Aid Society.
