Wide range of table linens offered at bargain prices including two yard wide double damask table linen patterns at 1.10 each and 60 inch all linen bleached tablecloths at 0.40. Also listed are 68 inch bleached Scotch linen pieces and various napkins centerpieces and towels with substantial savings.
The Agricultural Journalism students of L. S. C. won 289 dollars from a total 421 dollars in prizes at the Chicago International Corn Exposition. Iowa's I. S. C. earned 35 of 60 prizes, with several students receiving multiple awards for essays on corn from growers breeders and kitchen uses.
Bob Clark three times winner of the Ames Times Silver Trophy announces a Thanksgiving day shoot on November 28 at 2 p.m. at the Ames Gun Club. The contest, for the best score out of twenty five clay pigeons, may see Clark win or surrender the cup to another member. If possible turkeys will be contested or money events held to add amusement for the afternoon.
Mr H Leroy Smith and wife move from a ten cent moving picture outlet to Boone's Dreamland at the Arie opera house. Ruth Bachus, once in Ames, now plays piano there. The couple bring seasoned show business talent to the scenic venue and are thriving in the new location.
Professor A M Newens of the public speaking department at I S C left Monday for Toledo Ohio to confer with officers of the Association of National Speech Arts. As chairman of the program committee he will arrange the next meeting program and his rising national recognition is noted with pleasure.
Squaw Creek gains two new bridges and a cinder path to Iowa State College. Armstrong crew drives pilings for a foot bridge while another span across the mud hole is completed. A six foot grade runs parallel to the interurban track, easing student and public access to the college farm and campus. Simultaneously the trustees plan a city directory to improve Ames records and services.
Iowa fans fear Cyclones may unveil new tricks for Saturday's showdown with the Hawkeyes after two Iowa City students were caught watching secret practice at Ames. Trainers doubt any usable information was obtained, but the incident underscored heightened secrecy around the Cyclones camp.
Greenawalt Implement House in Nevada closed its doors last Thursday and creditors took possession. Liabilities reach about 26000 with over half due to immediate relatives who aided the firm. Assets are about 14000. No bankruptcy proceedings yet. Banks and wholesale houses are investigating and talking possible adjustment.
Mrs. W. H. Clements of Des Moines, noted in county court for prior cases over patent nostrums, was tried for arson in Des Moines. Circumstantial evidence failed to prove intent to burn her downtown office for insurance, and she was acquitted.
A Nevada Journal report says R. M. Smith of Cole was elected president of a bon ton decollette dancing club in the village. He denies any connection to the club and says no such organization exists or would have his involvement.
