Dr C A Yarbrough of Macon was acquitted on the charge of flogging R F Mills a chiropodist here in January 1922. The jury deliberated a little over three hours after a court week that featured intense interest and capable counsel on both sides.
London reports that Italy has extended its notice to Yugoslavia on the Fiume question past today. Diplomats will continue negotiations on Porto Barros and the nearby delta on current terms while awaiting new proposals. British officials say the danger of hostilities is removed.
In Macon on September 15 witnesses for the defense testified about W O Barnett of Americus having a questionable character and described interactions with Attorney Ross regarding Barnett. Mrs Sara Darling, Barnett’s daughter, testified Ross suggested Barnett could be a Ku Klux Klan target and noted financial arrangements for travel.
A brisk pay-up campaign by thirty four Americus merchants begins, with Henry Everett of the Chamber of Commerce praising early coupon uptake and suggesting high interest in the contest. In New York, Jack Dempsey defends his heavyweight title by knocking out Luis Angel Firpo in the second round, a fast bout. The Interstate Commerce Commission rules cotton transit restrictions unjustified and cancels related schedules across Atlanta and nearby cities.
Dayton Ohio September 15 Maj E L Napier flight surgeon at Mc Cook Field was instantly killed when the Fokker plane he rode fell to the earth. Witnesses said the right wing crumpled in the air and the craft rolled over. He attempted to use his parachute but could not escape the turning wreck.
Premier Poincare at Hattonchattel in Meuse France praises the American army for clearing St Mihiel and aiding reconstruction. He notes American help in rebuilding forty village houses and commends Belle Skinner of Holyoke Massachusetts for funding the church and abbey restoration.
Waycross Ga Sept 15 At the regular meeting of the Members' Council of the Waycross and Ware County Chamber of Commerce a committee including H D Reed chairman Dr B H Min chew G T Greene and G R King was appointed to arrange a representative party to Fitzgerald next Wednesday Sept 19 to take part in an inspection of the Dixie Highway from Waycross to Macon.
Judge Bell of Fulton superior court sues Klan officials for failing to appear before a court commissioner. The petition by David M. Rittenhouse of Philadelphia seeks to place the Ku Klux Klan in receivership and compel testimony and evidence. The case follows the officials’ nonappearance before the commissioner in Atlanta.
Premier Yamamoto will issue a formal statement detailing new cabinet policies with a promise to rebuild the capital and restore national prestige. He will thank the world for aid, noting material support from the United States and China is arriving, while typhoid fever and dysentery rise among refugees in crowded open spaces.
Waycross public schools plan to open Monday with an estimated 3,500 to 4,600 students. Superintendent Prof A G Miller expects enrollment to match or exceed last year’s 3,500, targeting the 1922 level as a benchmark for the new term.
Two armed bandits robbed Fraiberg Jewelry Co in Cleveland, stealing about $20 000 in jewelry and $500 in cash. They forced president Frank Fraiberg to open the safe, bound him, his brother, and the bookkeeper, and moved them to a back room before fleeing in an outside car.
Waycross Sept 15 The city water supply shows complete purity based on tests conducted September 5 by sanitary engineers of the State Board of Health. Samples from a deep city well and a tap at 414 Plant avenue were absolutely pure, with other readings at City Hall stand-pipe 175 bacteria per cubic centimeter and various taps recording 100 to 200 bacteria per cubic centimeter.
In Moultrie 28 students began football practice under Coach Saxon with short sessions for ten days. The season opener is set for next Friday against Tifton High, a team with a new coach and unknown strength. Aiding Saxon are R C Pittman, principal, and Mack Tharpe, ex-captain and Georgia Tech squad member.

In Miami police court four Ft. Lauderdale men were sentenced to 60 days in jail for an alleged attempt to kidnap confectioner Charles Freed. The defendants J. B. Marshall H. D. Durrance L. T. Yar borough and H. L. Henson denied the charge claiming they only sought to talk. They were also remanded on a charge of carrying concealed weapons.
Emory University officials plan a comprehensive alumni campaign when fall session opens September 24. Secretary James A. Dombrowsky leads the move to reconnect graduates with campus life. A weekly Emory newsletter will relay campus news and chatter to alumni.
Savannakh Sept 15 A formal plan moves ahead for an intensive evangelistic campaign in South Georgia soon after the South Georgia Methodist conference meets next month The board of missions will push to hire five or six evangelists to operate within the conference bounds
International President Edmund F. Arras of Columbus Ohio is slated to attend the Georgia Kiwanis Club meeting in Columbus October 25. About five hundred visitors from roughly seventy Georgia Kiwanis clubs are expected to attend the event.
Colquitt county farmers and business men arrange a mass meeting in Moultrie on Thursday to discuss farmer problems and county development. Bankers merchants and farmers will exchange ideas, speak candidly, and aim to make the gathering highly productive.
Dr J W Chambliss says Americus malaria conditions are better now than at any prior time in city history due to householders in the anti mosquito drive and experience of workers since summer. He notes no dengue cases and minimal sickness, but warns continued vigilance and cooperation are essential to maintain gains. Continued on Page Two.

He also shipped a carload of sash doors and mill work for a rural church nearby and is preparing carpentry for a consolidated school in Andersonville.
Tifton Georgia reports 1913 24 enrollment reaching 685 with 392 in Grammar School and 293 in High School. Ninth grade congestion requires another teacher. Graduation class expected near 35 amid suburban attendance trends.
Wilmington N C September 16 New Hanover county grand jury returned presentments against the North Carolina corporation commission for enforcement of banking laws in the Liberty Savings Bank of Wilmington failure. Indictments were previously returned against T E Cooper and J Bourla former bank president and cashier for acts contributing to the bank's collapse. The grand jury alleges the commission knowingly allowed irregularities to continue when able to act.
Ralston Cargill told Kiwanis members in Windsor that Americas playground plans to issue bonds to fund pool improvements and cover about 1500 dollars of debt. Eight percent bonds now on sale at local banks. aim to raise eight thousand dollars to support the playground association’s obligations. Continuous note indicates continuation on page seven.
