In Madrid on September 14 King Alfonso refused to grant punishment for the military revolt and directed Primo Rivera to form a new government after the Spanish cabinet resigned. The premier had requested authority to punish revolting troops in Barcelona and other cities, but the king declined.
J E Bass, a dyer at Americus Steam Laundry, was badly hurt Wednesday evening when a plank on a temporary scaffold broke and he fell onto machinery. He suffered a deep ear wound, a severe forehead gash, a scalp laceration, and other injuries, and was carried home to recover.
J B Satterfield was sentenced by Judge John D Humphres to be hanged November 2 1923 in Fulton county tower for the murder of his brother in law J H Hart at a local soda fountain Hart was killed after a pursuit by Satterfield who fled to California before being returned to stand trial Satterfield said domestic trouble and alleged mistreatment of his children sparked the killing and he will appeal for a new trial

The American Civil Liberties Union reports Mayor John Cauffiel of Johnstown Pa issued a drastic eviction order demanding all black residents who have lived in the city under seven years leave town. The order also halts immigration of black people to Johnstown immediately.
Members of the Atlanta Federation of Women’s clubs led by Mrs. T. T. Stevens and Mrs. Spencer Atkinson organized a systematic tag day on downtown Atlanta streets to aid Japanese earthquake sufferers. The effort raised over $3,000 and was turned over to the American Red Cross.
The Tulsa Tribune said it would seek a U S district court injunction to stop Governor Walton from interfering with its publications if he enacts military censorship of its columns. The censor was not yet at the Tribune office, but Adjutant-General Markham said it would be placed there later today.

Cordele September 14 C B Culpepper county farm agent and Miss Bell the new county demonstration agent begin plans for a campaign to increase poultry and dairy practices in Crisp county. The Cordele Creamery initiated months ago has grown into a timely enterprise, placing thousands of dollars in dairy farmers pockets in Crisp and nearby areas with community support boosting its success.
Mrs Jesse Stallings has departed for Valdosta to visit her daughter Mrs Walker Lane for several days.
Fourteen indictments against William G. Banham president and Dwight Harrison secretary treasurer of the R. L. Collings company of Ohio allege obtaining money under false pretenses and aiding and abetting. Harrison is in custody. Banham has not yet been apprehended.
The Ellaville highway segment from Central of Georgia tracks to Factory Row was completed Thursday afternoon and traffic is now restored from the courthouse to the Schley county line. The section to the county line opened earlier, and the Americus depot area detour routes may be abandoned. Users describe the completed road as among the finest in this Georgia region.
Vienna report notes caterpillars in pecan trees will harm next year’s crop if nests are not removed. Rev C M Ledbetter urges owners to tear out nests immediately, advising burning with kerosene on a pole. He emphasizes leaves as the pecan’s laboratory and notes his own pecan trees.
The Dempsey Firpo heavyweight title fight returns will be read tonight at the Rylander theater at 9 o clock. The event is arranged with Manager Kincey as Times-Recorder offices proved too small for the crowd. Readings will interrupt pictures, and all matinee attendees will be seated comfortably.

Cordele buyers Bell and Clegg, who purchased the J A Sloan farm four and a half miles southeast of Cordele, intend to plant pecans on 100 cultivated acres this fall. The 150 acre Sloan place hosts a nursery with about fifty thousand trees and five thousand ready for sale, backed by a guarantee. Pecan demand grows, likened to orange trees in Florida, as a money maker.
The Italian Charge d Affaires informed the Yugoslav government that Mussolini desires direct talks with Belgrade on Fiume. The aim is a fresh basis for negotiations, with an early resumption likely but no decision yet.
Paris Sept 14 Italian Premier Mussolini will declare the annexation of Fiume to Italy and announce the withdrawal of Italian troops from Porto Barros adjoining the harbor. Italy will give up claims to that port and to Sussak and Delta, which will be left to Jugoslavija.
A gathering of prominent Georgia Woodmen including past head consul Dr H B Allen and state camp auditors C J Williams Americus along with state manager T L Bennett attended a Richland district meeting. About 300 guests witnessed ceremonial initiation of a new class and heard open air talks on Woodcraft benefits followed by a barbecue and initiation participation in the hall.
A cooperative hog sale is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 17 at the Americus pens. County farm demonstration agent Geo. O. Marshall says at least three cars will be offered. Farmers are urged to bring hogs early to ensure good condition for the sale and avoid heat damage.
A fight card will be added to the Sumter county fair attractions September 25 to 29. Jack Holst announced as chairman of the American Legion committee organizing the Legion program for the exposition. Negotiations are underway with Walk Miller and others to secure fighters for the event under John D. Mathis Post No. 2. The bouts will be held on a specially built elevated, illuminated platform inside the fair grounds.
In Atlanta on Sept 14 Georgia farmers led by the Sweetwater Valley Growers Association ask Senator W J Harris to press for reduced farm freight rates. They cite a Tomato car from Powder Springs to Tampa costing 429.40 versus an estimated 200 if shipped Tampa to Powder Springs, claiming railroads discriminate against them. The senator has alerted the Interstate Commerce Commission to the complaint.
In Macon on September 14 the state rebutted defense claims about Barnett and his wife. Barnett's daughter testified her father never mistreated his wife, while Barnett's physician supported his alibi. She said Ross offered mileage and fees to leave town, and denied by her that her father abused her mother. Dr Yarbrough denied involvement in recent Bibb county depredations, admitted Ku Klux Klan membership, and condemned lawlessness.
Washington sept 14 Cotton consumed during August reached 491604 bales of lint and 47998 bales of linters, compared with 461575 lint and 44775 linters in July and 526380 lint and 62841 linters in August last year, per the census bureau.
