In Newnan Georgia on September 13 Walter Feltman was acquitted of murder in the Millard Truton slaying. J W Minter was sentenced to death Grady Minter and Floyd Weldon received life terms. Two co-defendants to be tried next week.
Rome September 13 General A J Twiggs of Augusta was re elected commander of the Georgia department United Confederate Veterans at the close of the annual reunion business session General Joe Day Stewart of Americus was elected brigade commander for Western Georgia.
The United Mine Workers of America charges eighty six Lithuanian Bolshevists led the Herrin massacre of non union miners in Southern Illinois. The article identifies 67 mob leaders as Bolshevist Lithuanians from the Community party of America and notes 19 imported agents to foment the attack, which killed 22 men in June last year.
Chat ham county promoters say the Riverside club will be among the state’s most complete with a swimming pool offering fresh and salt water, a large dance pavilion, permanent barbecue pits, and a children’s clubhouse. Work proceeds rapidly as plans include free memberships for all Protestant ministers and their families.

Americus Rotary celebrated its fifth anniversary Wednesday in Windsor hotel private dining room with most members and guests present. The club’s international charter was issued September 12, 1918, with installation aided by Albany Rotary at Elks club rooms. Original members listed include Frank Harrold president and 19 others. past presidents are Harrold, Dykes, Hightower, Lanier, Glover, and Sheffiled. Over five years, 69 men joined. current active membership is 41 with no deaths among members.
Justice Price Gilbert of the Supreme Court will speak to the Rotary club on Constitution Week, Wednesday September 19. The Rotary luncheon will feature Gilbert, a top state constitutional law authority, with full coverage planned in the Times-Recorder for those unable to attend.

Savannah, Sept. 13. Gus S. Godbold, captain of police for the Atlantic Coast Line district, has been pensioned after six years in the post and will retire September 1. Officials announced a successor has yet to be named.
Figures from the Savannah Board of Trade show the Savannah river low water depth rising five feet over the last five years. The present low-water depth is 26 feet, while high tide reaches 82.5 feet, deemed more than ample for large merchant vessels serving Atlantic Gulf and Pacific ports.

Macon Sept 13 Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic shop team from this city prepares for football season after two undefeated seasons. The apprentice players average 150 pound linemen and 140 pound backs. The Southwest Georgia Athletic Association bars games with high schools in the region, but the shop eleven hopes to schedule several high school contests soon.
In Macon on September 13 the defense called witnesses to undermine R. F. Mills’s character as Dr. C. A. Yarbrough faces a flogging case in City Court. Police chief Walter Revere and several doctors and ministers vouched for Yarbrough, while some witnesses admitted unverified rumors and Klan ties.
Macon plans to invite Gypsy Smith, famed evangelist, to conduct a city wide revival. Bishop W N Ainsworth of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South introduced the proposal and a committee was named to study it. It may be a year before availability, but preparations continue.
Clayton news reports the Bleckley Memorial school building, a private prep school founded by the late Judge Logan Bleckley, was totally destroyed by fire. No pupils were injured though several had narrow escapes. it is unclear if the building will be replaced.
Savanna, Sept. 13. Frank B Arden, oldest Central of Georgia railway employee by service, will be retired once the pension board meets. Arden has 56 years with the railway, 52 as a locomotive engineer, and will receive a pension more than half his active salary.
Madrid dispatch reports Barcelona army officers revolted and declared martial law aided by rank and file support while navy stood quiet. King Alfonso to return to Madrid as captain general proclaims siege and rallies districts in sympathy. Statement says movement targets the government, not the king, with Morocco tensions cited.
Plans for a major revival campaign in Columbus and Phenix City are being developed by the Columbus Ministerial Union and the local Advertising Club. The meetings begin September 30 and run two weeks, with a concurrent “better community” drive. A two week lead in will see churches in both cities urging residents to attend.
