Five men were killed and three injured in an explosion at the Hercules Powder company gelatin plant in Fayville Illinois. The blast cause is undetermined and the packing plant was destroyed while one other building suffered serious damage.
Americus Woodmen from Camp No. 202 will join Bronwood Woodmen for a district gathering in Bronwood on Wednesday. Dr. Henry B. Allen and W. T. Lane are invited to speak. visitors will enjoy a barbecue of over fifty carcasses and a log rolling event.
Zacharias B Fussell aged 66 died suddenly at 7 am at his son H Armistead Fussell s home 914 Oglethorpe avenue Americus after breakfast with family Funeral services set for Wednesday at 3 30 pm at the Fussell home with Dr Carl W Minor pastor First Baptist officiating Interment in Oak Grove cemetery Survived by widow three daughters five sons mother five sisters two brothers and numerous relatives Fussell a Sumter county native and respected farmer belonged to Bethel Baptist church and was active in local affairs He was in Americus to spend the night with his son and family and appeared in usual health until death likely from undetected heart trouble.
North Carolina State College graduation speaker Senator Royall Copeland urged an immediate world business and economic conference with no political differences to untangle global affairs. He warned American prosperity rests on global conditions, noting idleness abroad threatens lasting gains and urging farmer-focused analysis.

In IWESLIE May 29 the Union High School auditorium hosted the largest class in the school's history as diplomas were awarded after a program including a class song duet by Nettie Mae Bass and Sara Pool, salutatory by Bessie Lou Bass, and a literary address by Rev. C. M. Ledbetter. A group of federal army veterans will gather at Andersonville to decorate graves in the cemetery. The Grand Army Post of Fitzgerald oversees the graves where over thirteen thousand soldiers are buried. Cemetery staff prepared grounds as a United States flag will mark each headstone, with attendees expected from Andersonville and Americus tomorrow.

Americus friends learn that Tim Allen died Monday in Greenville South Carolina. He is survived by one brother and four sisters in Texas Americus Dawson Macon and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 4 o clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of John T Taylor on South Lee Street with nephews acting as pallbearers.

He will also address the fate of the eleventh hour man with death bed repentance. A large crowd is expected as rain hindered Monday’s service.

Led by John A Manget the new firm aims to develop the sweet potato industry through a forced air curing process to ship to world markets and establish curing plants statewide with D K Beck as manager.
The first car of Georgia peaches of the Mayflower variety was shipped Monday by the Central of Georgia railway from Bradley, Georgia. The car was headed to New York Civ, marking the season's opening shipment.
John Vereen aged 25 youngest son of W C Vereen prominent Moultrie banker and naval stores maker died suddenly Sunday night. He was brother of W J Vereen former state democratic executive chairman. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon.

Atlanta May 29 The Federal Reserve report shows Sixth District business conditions stayed favorable through April and early May though with more caution and conservatism than a month earlier. Consumers remember 1920 price scares, sugar prices are held steady, and dealers resist price hikes. Weather in April and early May slowed trade but overall retail and wholesale activity compares favorably with last year. Crop prospects grew less favorable due to persistent wet weather delaying planting and cultivation.
Albany May 29 With minimum requirements nearly secured the Georgia Peanut Growers Co operative Association has called a meeting in Albany Friday for all county committee members to perfect a permanent organization district territory directors file for charter and election of officers. The tentative plan requires 50 percent of 1922 acreage signed by July 1 to bind contracts and permit a permanent setup.

Washington May 39 In a bid to base regulations for the Cotton Standards act which takes effect August 1 Secretary Wallace of the Department of Agriculture met with a group of cotton men Monday Public hearings in the South last month showed broad support for the act though opposition arose in some exporting centers to using United States official standards in foreign trade Officials said it would be illegal for an American merchant to accept foreign terms for cotton graded by non U S standards.

Joseph W. Folk aged 53, a former Missouri governor and prominent Democrat, died Monday in New York. The death was reported to his longtime New York law office, with services following at the sister’s home of Mrs. James A. Webb after months of illness.
