J B Powell an American newspaper publisher in Shanghai has been paroled by Chinese bandits at Padzuka to join new conferences aimed at freeing captives. Advices received in Shanghai say the paroled publisher will aid other captives in potential release efforts.

Convention Sessions Held in Rylander Draw Large Attendance

The Georgia Association sessions opened in Americus at Rylander Theatre with about 500 delegates. Governor-elect Walker and State Highway officials spoke on tax policy and road development, urging unity, better schools, and a bigger Georgia through improved roads and finance.

Rule issued against officer in Valdosta tax case

Judge Thomas signed a rule against former Tax Collecting Con stable J G Crowley requiring him to show cause why he should not pay 827 17 to Byrd Belote tax collector. It is alleged the amount was collected by the defendant and not turned in. August 6 is set for hearing the charges.

Valdosta High School to Graduate Twenty-Nine in June

The Valdosta High School class of 29 will graduate June 1 in the school auditorium. Twelve boys and seventeen girls complete eleven years of work, receiving diplomas. Class officers are Tom Bush Smith president, Margaret Rebecca Hill vice president, Sara Glenn Hearn secretary, Edgar Winter Jackson treasurer, Benjamin Frank Wade sergeant at arms. Giant stills seized in Muscogee County raid

Two 1,200 gallon capacity stills were cut late Tuesday in Muscogee county near Goat Rock on Green Island in the Chattahoochee river. Federal Prohibition Agent Georgie R. Kincaid and H. M. Adair with Alabama officers Dowis Lynch Gilbert and Graham participated. About 800 to 900 gallons of beer were found. The stills had recent operation and evidence showed at least a year in use.

A prominent man arrived in town for the County Officers convention last night. He is described as the official gloom dispeller for the gathering. The Times-Recorder received a likeness of “Cousin Fred” from a friend this morning.

Evans Sues Ku Klux Klan Leader in Arkansas Suit

W. Evans of Atlanta, Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, filed in Pulaski Circuit Court against William J. Simmons for $100,000 defamation damages. The claim arises from a May 12 telegram to local papers alleging Evans misused over $100,000 of Klan funds.

Rotary Declamation at Americus High Tonight

Tonight at 8 o'clock in the auditorium of Americus High School the annual Rotary Declamation will be held. Snakebite Fatal Mule Death Near Dublin

A mule owned by L. M. Hanen just outside Dublin died from a snakebite sometime this morning. The exact bite moment is unknown though a scar on the mule’s head was noted. The head swelled and the mule threatened, a veterinarian was called but could not save it.

Attachments Issued for Careless Jurors in Valdosta

In Valdosta May 24 in Superior court several jurors did not answer when called and were found to be over age. Judge Thomas ruled that exempt jurors drawn must appear in open court and decline to serve. The court ordered attachments for those who failed to answer without a valid reason.

The coast guard cutter Seminole netted three rum runners after patrolling the Jersey three mile limit. The vessel was seen putting into port from shore with a heavily loaded haul.

Communists Hoist Red Flag in Essen Police Headquarters

Communists seized Police Headquarters at Gelsenkirchen and raised the red flag. German sources report five killed and 61 wounded as fighting began late last night and continued to early morning. The building was defended by a civilian defense group that finally withdrew after a wing caught fire.
