Lions Postpone Trip to Erect Scout Hut at Kidd's Mill

At the Lions club weekly luncheon the members postponed their trip to Kidd's mill to erect a Scout hut for the club's troop until next Thursday. The delay allows fuller participation in the County Officers' convention entertainment. The club pledged sixteen automobiles for the convention committee and welcomed Dr Milo H Massey as a new member with Elizabeth Smith and R C Moran as guests.

Columbus May 22 Boots Ansley local bantamweight will meet Hollis Sullivan of Atlanta in the main prelim of the Stribling Darcy card. The ten round bout opens the June 4 program. Sullivan won a close decision over Ansley in Atlanta last Thursday. Ansley seeks another crack at the city boy and the Legion committee grants the chance.

Swing pool to open for visitors during county officers meeting

John B. Ansley of the Americas Playground Swimming Pool committee announced the pool will be available for recreation to visitors attending the County Officers convention. The pool will be ready Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. and open 3 to 7 p.m. Then 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday from 5:30 a.m.

Gartner Dies Suddenly While Visiting Son

L L Gartner of Ellaville died suddenly this afternoon at his son James Peter Gartner home on Barlow street. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy. He came to Americus to attend the Ford service men and dealers convention at Americus Automobile company and was stricken while entering his son’s house. formerly lived in Americus, moving to Ellaville to run Schley County Automobiles. News will be learned with deep regret in Americus and Ellaville.

St Luke's Church to Spend $60,000 on Addition

In Columbus on May 23, St Luke Methodist Church announced plans to add a 60,000 structure with two wings after state legislature approval. The congregation approved the project at a quarterly conference and last Sunday's service. Land deed constraints require state permission before further buildings on church square.

Big Mill Dam Destroyed at Macon County Power Site

A concrete dam on White Water creek at the McKenzie power site in Macon county blew out Tuesday after 2 pm. The dam’s destruction caused about 15000 dollars in damage. Workers were erecting a power house when the dam failed four miles from Andersonville, cutting power intended for Oglethorpe Ideal Montezuma and nearby towns. C. W. Clark, a traveling salesman, crossed the dam shortly before failure.
