SANFORD Fla May 16 A former well known Orlando girl is in a hospital with injuries said to have been inflicted by Jesse Cole 28 in an attempted attack last night Cole is being closely guarded after an attempted lynching of him occurred last night authorities said
Atlanta May 16. A resolution presented to the Southern Baptist convention by Dr. W J McGloglin of Furman University Greenville S C alleges Baptists in Romania face great hardships and violence including ridicule fines arrests imprisonment flogging and unconsciousness. The resolution was referred to the resolutions committee.
George Remus testified before the Senate Daugherty committee detailing payments of protection money totaling more than a quarter of a million dollars to Jess Smith, friend of former Attorney General Daugherty. He described buying distilleries after the Volstead Act and a gentleman agreement ensuring withdrawal permits and immunity for about a year and a half while distributing liquor under a medical pretenses.
Richmond May 16 The preliminary arraignment of Mrs. Julia Dorff Stull charged with shooting her husband R. S. Stull on May 3 has been postponed to May 29. Stull was in jail since the death and she said the shooting followed a scuffle in their room. Police report she found him writing a letter to another woman. At 45 she has four divorces on record.
Austin Texas May 16 The national general assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church opened its 94th convention addressing core issues of Darwinism and modernism in its first business session.
Cor dele Georgia May 16 City Manager C D Terrell and the city street forces are this week checking behind the Boy Scouts who last week conducted a census of the community regarding health. Areas not in proper condition are being cleared of objectionable elements. A campaign against mosquitoes and flies will be carried out with care and vigilance during early summer. The entire community has been checked by the Boy Scouts.
Dawson May 16 Revival services are in progress at the Dawson Methodist church with large crowds at every service. Evangelist Rev. L. J. Miller of Nashville Tennessee leads. D Ward Milam from Lincolnton North Carolina directs the music. The revival will run two weeks and many converts are expected from the strong interest.

Vienna May 16 A giant skyrocket exploded at a fireworks display last night killing a woman and a child and seriously injuring six others. Several more people were hurt in the ensuing chaos.

On May 16 the Fruit Growers Express will relocate its headquarters from Florida to Macon to prepare for managing the Georgia peach crop. Federated Fruit and Vegetable Growers Inc will open on the second floor of the Central Hotel Tuesday, Gentile Brothers Co to open in the Bible building Tuesday or Wednesday, with a private branch telephone exchange already installed at the Exchange. Private wires will connect to diverting and reconsigning points in Potomac Yards Cincinnati Nashville and Atlanta.
Dispatches report further shocks felt at Erzeruam Hassankale and Kars. Villages near Hassankale are said to be destroyed and 120 additional victims are recorded, raising the death toll in the region.
A Constantinople dispatch on Wednesday reported the destruction of several villages and about fifty lives lost in a violent earthquake in the Erzeruam region.
Americas Kiwanis members and guests gathered for a ladies night at the Windsor hotel on Friday May 28 with a dinner and program led by Joe Bryan as general chair. J W Payne received the Kiwanis pin from President Mathis. Visitors included J A Pinkston Sr T W Townsend J W Alexa Rev C A Jackson and others. Boy Scout troops led by Nathan Murray camped overnight at McMaths mill, aided by the club with transport and gear.
In Albany on May 16 Sheriff Tarver warned Daugherty county property owners that many 1923 taxes remain unpaid with grace periods ending. Notices have been issued and over 25000 dollars in uncollected taxes remain. Tarver will levy on unpaid properties and start advertising for sale on June 1 if payments are not received.

Herbert Hoover warned in a May 16 informal statement that requiring inspection of small business tax returns would jeopardize small firms. He argued disclosure to larger competitors could reveal information enabling them to crush smaller rivals, placing smaller concerns at a severe competitive disadvantage.
Reports detail Elbert Stallworth and Dr. R H J DeLoach visiting Sumter County meetings to press the DeLoach boll weevil control method among black farmers. Stallworth argued that while the lord put the weevil here, humans must act to protect the community by thorough poisoning, predicting higher cotton yields this fall.

In Peking on May 16 a box sent anonymously exploded injuring three servants who opened it. Dr. Wellington Koo, the Chinese foreign minister, was unharmed. The incident marks a violent attack linked to ongoing tensions in the capital.
Hong Kong May 16. Dr Sun Yat Sen, president of South China, whose death was reported Tuesday, is alive and perfectly well, his confidential secretary declared today to an Associated Press representative. Rumors of his death were untrue and an interview request was denied.
The Cotton A B C Books, linked to the DeLoach poisoning method, are distributed free through banks and businesses. Farmers are urged to give one to every tenant, with a claim that the plan could bring $3,000,000 to Sumter county farmers this fall. Unlimited copies are available courtesy of the Times Recorder.
The Seaboard Air Line poultry car at Americus gathered 2000 pounds of fowl in a single pickup. John Bowen, Seaboard agent, urged farmers to bring chickens and helped boost local poultry leverage. Many farmers earned about 600 dollars, with average prices near 50 cents per pound. The car toured Huntington, Leslie, DeSoto, Cobb and Flintside before heading to Savannah, collecting more at each stop.
In Gainesville Florida on May 16 a lone bandit about 30 unmasked entered the American Railway Express office at High Spring and escaped with payroll money estimated between 16 000 and 20 000. He fled in a small touring car toward Newberry as deputies chased.
Atlanta May 16 J B Satterfield on a bare cot in a dirty cell senses news that Governor Walker will not interfere with his death sentence. He speaks softly of the law and his hope for a new trial while lamenting the killing and noting the governor’s duty.
May 16. A movement may give Sparta access to hydro electric current within a year or two. Editor Pat Griffin of Bainbridge, representing Georgia Public Utilities information committee, visited Sparta Tuesday to promote the project. He said Sparta is slated for a power line connection as soon as feasible, which would attract settlers.
