Baptists Reject New Motion in Convention Battle

In Atlanta on May 17 the Southern Baptist convention decisively rejected a motion by C P Stealey of Oklahoma City to re open the modernist vs fundamentalist debate. Stealey tried to place the resolution directly before the body bypassing the resolutions committee, which had acted unfavorably on similar rules the day before.

Legion Post to Send Delegates to Savannah

The John D. Mathis Post of American Legion will hold its second regular meeting in the Superior Court Room Monday at 7 30 pm. Delegates to the State Convention in Savannah June 5 and 6 will be elected, with four delegates and four alternates chosen. Three delegates will be elected for La Societe 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux and a short meeting follows. Funds for Confederate Veterans reunion travel will be discussed along with electing new officers in June.

Experiment Shows Loss in Cotton

A US Department of Agriculture Bureau of Markets study at Jefferson Georgia reports cotton bale losses under weather exposure. Open ground bales lost up to 370 pounds in eight months, bales on edge 167 pounds, end-on 78 pounds, on timbers with weekly turning 49 pounds, timbered tarpaulin 14 pounds, while a bonded warehouse bale lost only one pound. Corroborating tests favor properly constructed bonded warehouses for minimal storage loss.

H Lester Dykes the Pierce county tax collector was killed Wednesday afternoon in the pasture behind his father's home. Found by his father he had gone to gather fish bait for a fishing trip and carried a gun and hoe. Authorities suppose the gun discharged by accident striking him in the stomach.

Harry Ganster 21 president of Marysville High School senior class and Vera Ellens berger 18 of Hollidaysburg were found shot to death in an automobile near Hogestown early today. It is unclear if it was double murder or murder and self harm as no gun was found. The couple had set out last night to look for flowers.
