Machines Ordered Today To Apply Poison

One hundred Perfection dusting machines were ordered by telegraph for Sumter county farmers to apply calcium arsenate to cotton. Judge James A. Hixon announced distribution at cost through Howell's store, price $57.24 delivered in Americus, with 72 already sold. George O. Marshall praised negro farmers for embracing the poisoning plan and noted leadership from Albert Stallworth, Victoria Gaines, and supporting white landlords and bankers. Dr. R. J. H. DeLoach said negro farmers welcome poisoning. public meetings drew 300 to 350 participants, plus white farmers, in demonstrating the boll weevil campaign.
