Insurgents Capture Town on Margarita Island

Venezuelan insurgents supported by the revolutionary steamer Bolivar seized Juan Griego on Margarita and then moved toward Asuncion, capital of the island. Government troops were defeated and reports said insurgents would soon control the entire island.

Irate Negro Kills His Wife in Alabama

Opelika Alabama March 18 Bud Pitts a negro killed his wife with a shot to the side after a quarrel and arrest. He fled into the woods after firing at a boy in the yard as sheriffs and officers pursued him. The Gold Hill Copper Company held its annual meeting in New York naming officers. In Montgomery William Washington the negro who killed his wife in January was convicted of murder and sentenced to the mines for life. Lord Kimberley in London suffered a relapse after a period of illness.
