Wm Tillman the farmer jailed for defaulted bond faces further distress as the sheriff levied his farm for rent. His wife sues for divorce citing years of abuse and hardship, with whiskey named as the sole cause of Tillman’s alleged brutality and downfall.
The Americus Light Infantry elected Lieutenant M S Harper as captain last night to succeed Captain H C Bagley. Other officers chosen include W F Clarke 1st lieutenant J E Mathis 2nd lieutenant H O Davis 3rd lieutenant and sergeants F A Hooper C E Van Riper Tim Allen J H Stallings T W Callaway A B Battle J R L Smith and M S Harper as his assistant. The unit remains in strong health with growing ranks and plans a public drill exhibit.

Society item: H J Webb of Sumter county marries Miss Lillie Fain of Bluffton, at bride’s parents’ residence, with brief attendance and wishes for long life.

Schools and churches grow as Methodists and Baptists plan new houses of worship. Turpentine business expands under J P McConnell, with W A Freeman noted as a skilled craftsman.

Judge W B S Oliver, who once spoke from a dry goods box, recalled his pulpit days as he weighed his two years six months of gospel pay in shoes, corn, and potatoes.
