The Americus Light Infantry held a quiet election last night electing M. S. Harper as captain. W F Clarke was chosen 1st lieutenant with J E Mathis 2nd lieutenant and H O Davis 3rd lieutenant. Other posts filled include sergeants and corporals as the unit notes strong enrollment and high discipline under Harper.
W L Douglas and his daughter Miss Marion L Douglas of Brockton Mass are stopping at the DeSoto in Savannah. His name and face are familiar to readers of the Tux Times Reconpen advertiser of the famous Douglas shoe. Douglas pictures are nearly identical, making recognition easy as they tour the South.

J H Davis one of three men jailed for trying to swindle George D Wheatley of goods valued about 45 cents appeared before Ordinary Speer. A Richmond county bond for 150 dollars was written for H B Moore by mistake as Davis claimed an alias. Judge Speer refused the bond as defective and Davis was remanded. A separate case heard by Judge Oliver involved William Tillman accused of assaulting his wife with a bond for his appearance set at issue. A March 15 dispatch from Washington notes Senator Colquitt of Georgia referenced Cleveland era remarks on dignity and self respect.
