Col George Ellis Dies At Home In Americus
Col George Richard Ellis president of the Empire Bank of Americus and prominent financier here died at 5:30 this morning at his home 136 Taylor street after seven days illness from pneumonia. Funeral Sunday at 3 in First Methodist with Rev John M Cutler and Rev Luther Harrell officiating. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. He is survived by widow Lenora. daughters Mabel and Anne. son George R Ellis Jr. two sisters and two brothers. Pallbearers named. Born Feb 26 1866, he moved to Americus in 1889 and served in the Georgia General Assembly in 1896-97.

Richard H. Heaton a wealthy broker devised a planned operation using an improvised surgical room in a deserted Louisville house where William C. Gates was held prisoner. Heaton allegedly spent about $100,000 and months planning the murder to maim or kill Gates with modern gland surgery instruments. Gates freed himself and killed Heaton after seizing his revolver. Heaton's widow Mary Leahy Wiesen Heaton faced private detectives hired by her husband.

Watchman Fatally Wounded at Warner Hollywood Studio
W Jensen a Hollywood studio watchman at the Warner brothers was found fatally wounded near the studio early today. He collapsed while fleeing toward the road and died en route to hospital. An automobile registered to H L Warner actor and producer was found near the gate with the engine warm. Police later revised ownership to H M Warner general manager. The chauffeur was questioned and released.

Judges Fail to Appear at Lysian Debate Postponed
Friday night at Thompson school the scheduled debate between Thompson and Thalean teams was omitted due to judges failing to attend. The debate will be held later with the same teams and subject that asks if the Bull Weevil has benefited Georgia. About two hundred people attended, with candidates for county offices present, and a barbecue supper was served by the ladies.
