In Cripple Creek district a running melee between officers and miners left one man dead and another badly wounded after Frank Lupton arrested McQuade for last summer’s railroad strike. Seth Walston was shot. both suspects bonded but refused. The train incident disrupted transport as tensions flare and jail awaits. In Washington, State Department publicized telegrams between Governor Foster of Louisiana and Assistant Secretary Uhl over New Orleans riot and a shot British subject, with Foster reporting local authorities keeping order and protecting life and property.

General J B Fullerton and General A P Stewart urged preparations for the Chickamauga park dedication on September 19 and 20.
