Alliancea Attacked On High Seas Near Cuba
American mail steamship Alliancia, en route from Colon to New York, was chased by a Spanish warship off Cape Maysic. The Spaniard fired three solid shots at close range, none hit the ship. Captain Crossman avoided detention, ordered full steam, and escaped to safety. The incident is reported to Washington with plans for a diplomatic reply.
