In Cordales Columbia County a man John Floyd shot himself in a pawn shop and then in Yarboroughs saloon leaving a note to his mother asking to bury him near his brother Bob.

Daniel Richards aged 20 of Green Ridge was found dead on the porch of the home of his intended bride Miss Elizabeth Walters in Suamosey Pennsylvania with a bullet hole in his temple. He was to have been married that day to Walters. He left for his home after visiting the Walters house last night around 10 pm eight miles distant. The weapon was not found and Walters said there had been no quarrel and Richards seemed unusually cheerful.
Rumors say Seaboard Air Line plans changes at the top with Captain W E B McBee expected to become third vice president. J William Middenhord of Baltimore may become second vice president, while N D Maher moves up to succeed McBee as general superintendent of the Pocahontas division.
Dr Johnston pronounced Mrs McKinley out of danger and convalescing after a White House consultation. Dr Rixey warned relapse possible but current progress is steady and satisfactory. President and Mrs McKinley expected to depart for Canton soon.
Prof Rankin shot and killed Principal George R. McNeill at the Dothan public school then fatally shot himself. Rankin, unmarried from Pensacola, had been McNeill’s assistant and was omitted from a newly elected faculty list. McNeill leaves a wife and three children. A separate note from Onamorty, N. C., reports gold-rich black sand in the Catawba river bed yielding $320 per ton, renewing interest in mining potential and historic gold dust transactions among local banks and prospectors.
In Ocata Florida June 17 oil excitement grows as locals recount a pond near Mr and Mrs Vogts where animals refused to drink. Mrs Vogt noticed the water’s oily residue leading to Mr Vogt testing the water and discovering kerosene like oil on his arm. An analysis confirmed oil presence and the discovery spread through newspapers.
