Baseball celebrities are abuzz over the Dempsey Gibbons fight as all eyes turn to the coming mill. Dempsey has many admirers among players and managers in big league cities, while Gibbons also has backers. Opinions split, but Jack Dempsey seems to hold the edge in size and power.
Governor Hardwick signed an order authorizing Adjutant General Pope to set military rule in Savannah where a mob threatened the jail to seize the black suspect accused of attacking a white woman. General Pope said the situation was under control and troops would stay on duty briefly.
Governor Hardwick placed Savannah under military protection and banned firearm sales after a mob stormed the county jail to lynch Walter Lee, a Black youth accused of assaulting a white woman. One man was killed and another wounded as troops dispersed the riot. several others were hurt and Sheriff Dixon questioned Lee while inspecting a neck wound.
A mob of over 2,000 gathered in Savannah in front of the jail where Walter Lee, a Black man charged with criminal assault, was held. One man died, several injured, including Chief Hendry, Lt. Helmly, and Sheriff Dixon, as machine gun and brick attacks continued until military forces restored order.
Fight fans in Americus can hear ringside returns from the Dempsey Gibbons bout at Shelby Montana on July 4. The Times-Recorder will receive the reports directly from ringside at its office and read them aloud for listeners. Hour of returns to begin will be announced later with no charge for the service. towns within the region can arrange free relays, except for telegraph tolls.

Asa G. Candler Sr., 72, Coca Cola founder, wed May Little Ragin, 35, a stenographer in the Candler building. After the ceremony they left for Washington and will reside in Atlanta after July first. Ragin was born in Sparta with family formerly in Cordele.

Thieves entered the Americus Steam Laundry Tuesday night and stole a small amount of cash and stamps. Manager W. J. Barefield found the break in this morning and reported only 1.00 in pennies and 50 cents in stamps were missing. Clothing, checks, and money orders remained untouched.

Mrs Nondas White, visiting her parents at Rees Park, was summoned to Lake Park to attend the funeral of her mother in law Mrs J K White who died suddenly of blood poisoning. Her son Nondas White, a Valdosta businessman, was at her bedside. Mrs Nondas White left for Valdosta to attend the funeral this morning. Many of the Whites' Americas friends mourn with them.
Thomaston golfers beat Americus 13 to 11 at Americus Golf Club. Walter Rylander and Middleton McDonald led Americus with 89 medals each. Alton Jenkins of Thomaston shot 91 for third. Flights detail close matchups, Rylander edging Hightower on the 21st hole in a playoff.

Mr and Mrs Warren J Sutton who wed recently have left the Cawood house and now reside in an apartment within Mrs George Wah Riper s home at the corner of Church and Brown streets.

Surgeon notes five saline injections, regained consciousness, and no new complications are feared. the wreck occurred when Mr Faust allegedly lost control and Cook steered into a ditch.
In Winnesboro Texas on June 20 Mr and Mrs C O Chapman were shot and killed by Mrs Chapman's father W K Bradford who then fatally shot himself. The Chapmans were shot with a shotgun twice each while Chapman slept in bed and his wife lay a few feet away. Bradford died from four self inflicted revolver shots. Chapman was the son of J L Chapman Texas State Banking Commissioner and a noted banker.
A committee representing Americas baseball enthusiasts visits Albany to arrange the opening game likely next Thursday at the Playground diamond. Members include W W Ray Thos L Bell Rufus Lane and Alton Cogdell. A fence fund receives near universal support with only two of many approached not donating a dollar.
In Macon on June 20 Leroy Parker known as Leroy Dinkis, 24, fatally shot his wife Rose Parker and then killed himself with a revolver. Rose Parker died about half an hour later at a hospital.
Valdosta June 20 Following the rainy period it is naturally expected that the mosquito crop this week will begin to increase despite the work of the skeeter brigade. Arrangements have been made at police headquarters to take all complaints regarding mosquitoes and persons who become unduly bothered with them are asked to report to the police station. These reports will receive daily consideration and each case will be personally investigated by the inspectors and efforts made to eliminate the source of supply.
