Savannah June 19 a negro church near Savannah was burned and three were injured in a related motor accident. Vicious assault on a young married woman at her home prompted a citywide hunt led by officers and posses. The victim provided an accurate description of the hunted man as authorities continued the search.
Lava from Mount Etna advances toward Linguaglossa threatening Castiglione as ash and cinders blanket the horizon. The eruption's violence grows, with lava crossing the railway and nearing the town, reports from Catania state say.
G. Lester Williams reports finding stagnant water in a sagging gutter near his home, containing mosquito larvae. After draining and realigning the gutter for proper drainage, mosquitoes disappeared. He urges neighbors to inspect gutters for standing water to aid elimination of the pests.
Extra service during the peach season between Fort Valley and Albany will run only on southbound trains. Wade Morris, agent for American Railway Express Company, notes the service helps peach shippers get fruit to stations in the afternoon. The morning northbound train will operate without a messenger.
June 19 Tifton General Manager J. J. Parris of the Southwest Georgia Melon Growers Association issues official handling rules for inspectors. The association aims to offer watermelons of a standard grade in peak condition, with only top quality fruit reaching the public.

Installation is set for the first July meeting with six months service from that date.
Cordele June 19 O C Fair field a former A B and A employee at Fitzgerald who was convicted of bridge burning during the strike on that road has moved from Crisp county jail to the state farm at Milledgeville to begin serving his life sentence.
Edward M. Fuller and William F. McGee, stock brokers, were convicted of bucketing and sentenced to between one year and three months and four years in Sing Sing. In Atlanta, Imperial Kloncilium members gathered for a regular session amid talk of earlier charges involving Wizard Evans. Mrs. Katherine O Connor, Denver society figure and daughter of a millionaire, surrendered on conspiracy to violate national prohibition law with a $1500 bond set for federal court on June 22.
A blaze in Moultrie early today leveled the Fall Hardware company store and damaged the Lewis Millinery and a local cafe, causing property losses estimated at 100000 dollars. The fire swept through buildings in the downtown area, with investigators assessing the cause and scope of the damage.
The Southwest Georgia Melon Growers association has named eight district divisions with seven managers. W. B. Smith will head the Valdosta district covering Valdosta Jennings Fla Lake Park Dasher Hanson Pinetta Fla Claytonville Howell Ousley Kinderley and Hahira shipping points. Boyd Vick is district manager at Quitman overseeing Empress Badeb Durden Morven Emerson Dixie Pidcock Boston Ozelle and Barwick.
Valdosta and Thomasville remain in contention for the league title after last Thursday match. If Albany defeats Thomasville and Valdosta beats Tallahassee next week, Valdosta and Thomasville would tie, forcing a tiebreaker game to determine the champion.

New York dated report says the exodus of American Baptists to Stockholm for the Baptist World Congress begins with liners sailing. A party of 50 prominent Baptists departed on the Pittsburgh for Bremen led by Dr. W. S. Abernethy of Calvary Baptist Washington and Dr. Cornelius Woelfkin of Park Avenue Baptist New York.
The first banquet of the Lions, organized by Field Agent Hall of Americus, was held at the Oceola hotel on June 19. Forty members attended along with visitors from nearby clubs. Lion N. L. Spengler served as toastmaster and Lion W. V. Custer presented the charter to President Lucious Hay.
Jean Barnes, a demented but harmless man living with his mother on New Street, vanished Friday night and remains missing. W. P. Wallis aided by his mother seeks him, noting he is between 45 and 50 years old and entirely harmless.
On June 19 the Georgia Association postponed its Atlanta open forum on Georgia revenue problems from June 21 to June 29 due to the death of George T Betts Thon. Officers notified representatives from about a dozen associations and all Georgia lawmakers who planned to attend. C K C Ausley of Bainbridge will preside at the rescheduled gathering.
Athens June 19 The total attendance at the University of Georgia during the academic year reached 4,126. The state college of agriculture had the highest attendance aside from the summer school, with 1,474 enrolled. The last summer session drew 1,908 students including 1,251 regular and 657 college credit enrollees.
C G Carter a 69 year old farmer and wife live on a share crop place owned by S P Cannon about four and a half miles north of Boston Georgia. They cultivate 16 acres of early King cotton waist high and full of fruit. Carter sprayings weekly and believes boll weevil is gone or destroyed signaling a potential large crop.
Albany Boy Scouts embark on a three-boat voyage down the Flint and Ikgaleeteols rivers to the Gulf as a reward for Camp Nodaway work. Scout Executive W. M. Bagby announces the trip on returning from camp. Joining the boys are Scout master Horace Coleman and George Johnson, Eagle Scout, with Mercer Sherman directing the voyage.

Thomasville leaders J B Jemison and FE Jerger travel to St Louis for the International Rotary Convention this week. Both are former presidents of the Thomasville Rotary Club and will represent the local club at the event.
A young Black student at Americus Institute died in a runaway incident at the institute farm. After finishing plowing, he rode his mules to the school barn when his foot became tangled in the plow gear and he was dragged to death. No name could be confirmed due to no telephone on site.
On June 19 the assembly of county home demonstration agents met with faculty from the state agricultural college to discuss handling of foods for marketing.
Marion C Cook badly hurt in a Dixie Highway wreck between Americus and Albany. Jesse Faust and Lawrence Physioc were injured. Cook and Physioc were brought to Americus for treatment. The high powered Packard, owned by Jones Motor Co, crashed into a ditch after Faust allegedly pressed the gas pedal.
June 19 Valdosta report: Mrs. Harnage while picking black berries at Feagle place stepped close to a coiled rattler and struck with a rail, killing a monster reptile. Nearby high water drove snakes from their haunts. four other rattlers were killed in the area recently.
Elizabeth Sheppard a 17 year old daughter of Mrs J E Sheppard fell from a peach tree in the family yard on College street early today and broke her arm The accident while very painful is not serious and she will be well again in a few days.
Georgia highway plans will be discussed at a Young Men's Dynamo meeting in Savannah. Chairman John N. Holder of the State Highway Department will speak about road plans on June 20.

The dollar committee is collecting up to one dollar from each donor to fund a fence around the playground diamond. The program features The Snow Bride and Uneasy Feet, with a band intermission concert between reels.
Jackson June 19 A halt has been called in farm labor migration from Butts county by colored ministers and local citizens. The exodus had peaked with many returning from northern plants while others plan to come home. Authorities warn some who went north contracted disease and several have died. By fall many southern Negroes are expected back home.
