Langford case started in Newberry involved a dog and doghouse. circuit court had quashed the indictment. The court says stealing a dog may be punished if properly drawn and that dogs deserve legal protection.

The funeral for celebrated playwright Augustin Daly was held at St Patrick's Cathedral New York with a crowded service. Pallbearers carried the coffin to the head of the aisle amid lilies while actors, Daly's company, and friends offered tributes. The requiem mass and absolution were given by Archbishop Corrigan and Rev Father Tuvelle delivered a sermon. Interment proceeded at Calvary Cemetery.
